How do you feel about finding a summer job in Spain?

Many people love the idea of coming over to Spain just for the holiday season and living in Spain for the summer while working to pay for their living. Spain, with 505,940 km2 has a population of over 48 million inhabitants, is the third largest country in Europe by surface area within the European Union and one of the most populous countries in the EU.  Spain is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world and so there is a real need for short-term workers just for the Summer months of June, July, August and to a lesser degree September and even October!  so it might offer you very interesting opportunities.

Spain has consolidated its position over recent decades as one of the most important tourist destinations in the world, consistently ranking among the top three countries in terms of international arrivals. This leadership is not the result of a single factor, but rather the combination of natural resources, cultural heritage, modern infrastructure, and extensive experience in tourism management.

In 2025, Spain received almost 97 million international tourists, surpassing pre-pandemic levels and reaffirming its status as a global tourism powerhouse. This figure places the country in direct competition with destinations such as France and United States, which have historically led global rankings in terms of visitor numbers.

The economic impact of tourism in Spain is equally significant. According to data published at the end of 2025 by the Tourism Satellite Account of the INE (Statistics National Institute), the sector accounted for approximately 12.6% of Spain’s Gross Domestic Product in 2024. In absolute terms, this represents more than €200 billion generated directly and indirectly by tourism-related activities. Tourism is therefore one of the main engines of the Spanish economy, with a strong multiplier effect on other sectors such as retail, transport, hospitality, and culture.

In terms of employment, tourism also plays a crucial role. In 2024, the sector generated more than 2.7 million jobs, representing over 12% of total employment in Spain. These jobs include both direct employment—hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, tourist transport—and indirect employment in complementary activities.

From a qualitative perspective, Spain stands out for the diversity and quality of its tourism offer. The traditional “sun and beach” model remains a fundamental pillar, with well-established destinations such as the Costa del Sol, the Balearic Islands, and the Canary Islands. However, Spain’s appeal goes far beyond. Indeed, the country offers a vast historical and cultural heritage, internationally renowned cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, and Granada, as well as a wide network of museums, monuments, and historic sites renowned worldwide.

In addition, Spain enjoys an internationally acclaimed gastronomy, along with the development of wine tourism, rural and nature tourism, and tourism congress, events and fairs. The country also benefits from a highly developed tourism infrastructure: well-connected international airports, an extensive hotel capacity, a high-speed rail network, and specialized services. All of this facilitates the arrival and mobility of millions of visitors each year.

Within the 2.7 million jobs that tourism represents, the most demanded occupational profiles are:

  • Tourist entertainers
  • Sports instructors / various activities
  • Receptionists, front desk officers
  • Hotel and restaurant staff (waiters with languages)
  • Chefs, cooks, kitchen assistants
  • Housekeeping and cleaning staff
  • Maintenance and customer service in resorts and campsites
  • Lifeguards
  • Beauticians, spa therapists
