For one of our members we're currently looking for:

Postdoctoral Researcher - Design of Integrated 5G Wireless Systems

Imec performs world-leading research in nano-electronics. Imec leverages its scientific knowledge with the innovative power of its global partnerships in ICT, healthcare and energy. Imec delivers industry-relevant technology solutions. In a unique high-tech environment, its international top talent is committed to providing the building blocks for a better life in a sustainable society. Imec is headquartered in Leuven (Belgium) and has offices in the Netherlands, US, Taiwan, China, India and Japan. Its staff of more than 2,080 people includes over 750 industrial residents, guest researchers and scholarships.

Job description50 billion nodes are waiting to get wireless interconnections by 2020, via and on the 5G cloud. We expect this to be a mesh of networks that connects everything and everyone. People, but also cars, buildings, sensors, and appliances.  For 5G, we have to rethink the wireless systems and radios we use today to meet the escalating requirements concerning performance (in terms of rate, ranges and flexibility), level of integration and energy consumption. Imec performs leading R&D towards integrated solutions for 5G radios and modems following a multi-disciplinary approach: algorithms, architectures, circuits, and low-power design. Our work on the radio front-end covers all aspects on CMOS RF transceiver design, full receive/transmit chains from LNA to ADC and DAC to PA, and frequency synthesizers. The activities on digital baseband processing target power-efficient reconfigurable architectures for future communication systems.  We particularly target further and better integration to achieve significant lower cost and low-power, leveraging on new nanoscale CMOS technologies (including ≤16nm FinFET transistors). On the one hand more integrated RF SoCs are wanted, driving for novel TRX architectures with ever more digital-intense radios. On the other hand, the number of components should be mastered, especially concerning antenna interfacing and filtering for multi-mode and multi-band devices. In this context, we are looking for a post-doctoral researcher with creative ideas to address the great challenges in the design of integrated solutions for 5G. We welcome candidates with excellent expertise research track record in one or more of the following domains: mixed signal SoC design, low power transceiver architectures and circuits (digital and/or analog, RF and/or baseband), front-end modules and antenna interfacing solutions. Understanding (future) wireless systems is a clear asset. Profile

  • You have a PhD degree in the domain of wireless communications and you are familiar with the implementation challenges of wireless communications systems.
  • You can quickly change the focus of your research and pursue opportunities.
  • You are a self-starter and a hands-on person.
  • You have excellent reporting skills and are able to present scientific results (publications, conferences, seminars).
  • You can easily integrate in an international team.
  • Good English communication skills are required.

This postdoctoral position is funded by imec through the KU Leuven. Because of the specific financing statute which targets international mobility for postdocs, only candidates who did not stay or work/study in Belgium for more than 24 months in the past 3 years can be considered for the position (short stays such as holiday, participation in conferences, etc. are not taken into account). We offerWe offer a challenging position for 2 years in an advanced high-tech environment and in an international, interdisciplinary team. Further, we offer the opportunity to contribute to technologies that will have an impact on the society of tomorrow. The salary is competitive. Furthermore, imec offers various training possibilities and social services, such as a company restaurant, the possibility of day care nearby, and discounts in different sport clubs and shops.
