Environmental Health and Safety Specialist
BHA is a leading construction company specialising in quality residential development and general contracting in the Leinster region. We are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist to oversee the safety and environmental aspects of our construction sites. As the EHS Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of our employees, compliance with regulations, and implementing effective safety practices.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement safety programs and policies for our construction sites.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, identify hazards, and recommend corrective measures t
- Collaborate with the site team to ensure adherence to safety procedures, and regulations.
- Conduct safety training sessions and workshops for employees to promote a culture of safety awareness.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and licenses relevant to construction activities.
- Identify potential environmental risks, develop strategies to mitigate them, and implement appropriate control measures.
- Monitor and evaluate environmental performance through site assessments and audits.
- Develop and maintain waste management plans, including proper disposal, recycling, and hazardous waste handling.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and provide recommendations for preventing future occurrences.
- Develop and implement emergency response plans to effectively manage potential crises, such as fire, natural disasters, or chemical spills.
- Conduct drills and exercises to test emergency preparedness and ensure proper response and communication protocols are in place.
- Identify areas for improvement in safety and environmental management systems and develop strategies to enhance overall performance.
- Analyse data and metrics to identify trends, monitor key performance indicators, and implement proactive measures to reduce risks.
- Provide guidance and support to project teams, subcontractors, and employees on safety-related matters.

- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field. Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalent are highly desirable.
- Proven experience (2+ years) in Environmental Health and Safety in the construction industry.
- In-depth knowledge of local and national safety and environmental regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Strong understanding of construction site safety, hazard identification, and risk assessment methodologies.
- Proficient in using computer software and applications relevant to EHS management.
