The Energy Orchestration incubation ventu re is a start-up-style team mixing R&D and business skills, building a disruptive solution for real-time, distributed power flexibility management, working with partners and customers from the energy industry.
The Nokia Bell Antwerp based R&D team is embedded in a wider international team, and interacts with partners and customers across the globe.
We are looking for an Expert Software Engineer Smart Energy Grid to strengthen our R&D team.
What you will learn and contribute to
As a Smart Grid expert, you
- will act as a reference team member when it comes to energy industry practices know-how,
- will be working closely with our platform and data flow system software engineers, to realise industry-standard integrations, embedding our distributed data processing system in the industrial environment,
- take ownership of specific, energy-domain-related software platform building blocks, and make sure their design aligns well with both the industry context and the overall platform design,
- actively follow industry (de facto or actual) standardisation trends,
- are ready to support, from a system author perspective, the roll-out and operations of platform installations in the field.
- A Master degree in (Software) Engineering or equivalent by education or experience, implying you are a full-stack developer familiar with modern software lifecycle practices and tools, open source library use in languages such as Python, JavaScript, C++ and various other languages and design paradigms,
- A concrete, multi-year experience of building software in the energy grid systems context, thus having expertise in the specific automation interfaces that are currently in use in the industry (ranging from lower layer protocols like OPC-*, up to semantic modelling, e.g., as promoted in the IEC 61850 suite)
- Capable of autodidactically acquiring knowledge an understanding of new as well as legacy technology applied throughout the energy grid,
- Committed to team, project, and individual objectives at a timescale of a year, months, or days when needed,
- Willing to work with agility, as customer-oriented actions may require quick pivoting,
- Able to travel abroad for physical interventions at customer sites,
- Attentive to back-reporting results and findings into the team.
- English is the working language, both verbally and in writing
