Hydraulics and Hydraulic systems - Associate Professor / Assistant Professor
At the Bergen University College, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Mechanical and Marine Engineering there is vacant position as Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Hydraulics and Hydraulic Systems.
Duties of the Post
The duties will be teaching, supervision and professional development within the 3-year Bachelor degree in mechanical-, marine-, manufacturing-, energy- and underwater technology. The same is true for underwater and energy technology within the Master program. Further education and post graduate courses (net based) for external students may also be relevant tasks.
Teaching assignments will generally be within one or more of the following subjects / disciplines: hydraulics, hydraulic systems and fluid mechanics. Based on the applicants' background and experience other subjects may also be relevant.
Participation in multi-disciplinary R & D will depend on the candidate’s qualifications.
Besides that R & D must be according to the college's strategic plan, the research must be relevant to the industry in the region and have relevance to the subjects being taught. Today research is done primarily in two areas: thermal machines and material technology. It is also desirable with research within other areas related to our activity.
Candidate Requirements
As a minimum a Master’s Degree (or equivalent) is required in mechanical-, energy- or marine technical subjects. It is desirable however that the candidate has a doctorate (PhD). Qualifications and / or experience in pedagogy, supervision, ICT and collaborative work will count positively. It is desirable to have relevant work experience. Emphasis is placed both on professional and educational qualifications, particularly in teaching experience within higher education.
If the applicant does not have practical pedagogical knowledge - based on education or teaching and supervision - they will have to take courses in pedagogy within 2 years from the date of appointment.
Lecturing at Bergen University College is normally performed in Norwegian or Scandinavian languages. It is expected that foreign applicants will be able to teach in a Scandinavian language within 2 years from taking on the post.
If no applicants are fully qualified, temporary employment may be considered for up to three years with the aim of permanent employment. Finally, there will be opportunities for professional and personal development.

Salary
Associate Professor code 1011/1198, salary grade 57 - 77 of the Norwegian State Salary scale, gross NOK 468 400 to 689 200 NOK per year. Assistant Professor code 1008 salary grade 47 - 71 of the Norwegian State Salary scale, gross NOK 396 900 to NOK 609 500 per year.
Two per cent of the salary will be deducted at source as an obligatory premium to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
