JOB DESCRIPTION
As a research engineer, you will be part of this team, with the Mechatronics Engineering group, and as such, has a strong mechatronics orientation in its activities. In general, the team is responsible for:
- Research on greater than 5 year technologies
- Demonstrator/prototype development
- Merger and acquisitions due diligence tasks
- University / research partner collaborations
- Vehicle performance engineering
From this position as a corporate R&D team, the goal of the research is to increase the revenue of through scouting and initial development of new and disruptive technologies. Additionally, the team supports the different business units (light vehicle, commercial vehicle, off-highway and motion products) on advanced technology development.
The tasks of a team member consist of:
- Prototype development of mechatronic systems (systems ranging from high end development tools to standard low level development boards (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, …))
- Basic vehicles simulations for evaluation of new technologies
- Basic market/business case development
- Literature review, research on new technologies: reading of specialized literature, attending conferences, reporting out to the different business units.
- Test bench development and operation
- Patent drafting
- Due diligence work
PROFILE
ir. or PhD ir. mechanical/electromechanical with a controls/data mining background with an aptitude for mechatronic systems.
The minimum set of technical skills expected from a candidate are:
- Signal analysis (frequency analysis, statistical analysis, etc.)
- System modelling and identification, observer design, classical control design
- Experienced in developing within the Matlab environment
- Basic programming skills, willingness to self-develop on this topic (python, c, c++)
- Basic understanding of data science (feature generation, data visualization, learning algorithms)
- Affinity with electronics
- Ability to deep dive into technical/mathematical topics and apply the newly obtained knowledge (algorithm development)
Nice to have skills:
- Data scientist
- Advanced control development
- Life and damage models of vehicle systems and components
- Vehicle dynamics
Non-technical skills:
- Fluent communicator
- Strengthen networks/relationships with research institutes (e.g. Flanders’ make) and government organizations providing grants
- Build and maintain personal relations within the company
- Fluent in English is a must
