Description de l’offre d’emploi

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet

Lyngby-Taarbæk, 1 stilling

The Technical University of Denmark has an open PhD position on “Experimental exploration of light-matter interactions in two-dimensional atomic crystals”. The project aims to explore not only fundamental physics in two-dimensional materials, but also their potential nanophotonics applications, and the project will take advantage of our state-of-art nanofabrication facilities at DTU Danchip, Infrared spectroscopy, non-contact terahertz spectroscopy and cryogenic systems available at DTU Fotonik.

Project description

Two-dimensional materials, e.g., graphene, h-BN, and MoS2, exhibit many exceptional properties. With the combination of photonic integration technology, these two-dimensional materials and their derived heterostructures open for interesting nanophotonics technologies. DTU Fotonik is actively involved in the exploration of graphene for sensing and electro-absorption modulator applications , and has recently developed non-contact terahertz spectroscopy to study the conductance and electron mobility in graphene . This project will extend these activities to other two-dimensional materials and heterostructures, with the goal of exploring new physics and novel promising applications. The main topics that the project will be addressing are:

1.Light-matter interactions in graphene-hBN heterostructures.

2.Photoluminescence of MoS2 in plasmonic nanostructure environments.

3.Active light control of conductance in 2D materials.

4.Graphene-metal hybrid systems for sensing and optoelectronic applications.

Qualifications

The candidate must have a master's degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in engineering. A solid background of optics and photonics is important, preferable with some nanofabrication skills.

Approval and Enrolment

The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, only candidates with an above the average marks are accepted in the program. We recommend the applicants to contact the supervisors in advance to assess the suitability of the application.

Candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programs of DTU. For information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies, please see the DTU PhD Guide.
