About Simula

Simula Research Laboratory AS is a publicly owned research institute located outside Oslo, Norway. It is a multi-cultural organization, employing about 150 individuals from 29 countries. Simula is conducting ICT research in the fields of communication technology, scientific computing and software engineering. Simula's main objective is to generate new understanding and create vital knowledge about fundamental scientific challenges that are of genuine value for society. This is achieved through high quality research, education of graduate students, industry collaboration, technology transfer and commercialization.

Responsibilities

We are currently seeking a candidate for a full time Senior Research Engineer position in the Section for Communication Systems (ComSys). ComSys overall goal is to develop new knowledge that can improve societal robustness and performance in communication networks, and include research within multimedia services, networks resilience, computer security and data centre networks efficiency.



A joint challenge for many of our research activities is the analysis of large data sets, such as data generated by our global communication networks measurement infrastructures, and data generated by multimedia and cloud applications. Examples of projects in demand for such analysis are the NorNet and MONROE projects, which aim to study properties of Norwegian and European broadband services.



You will be the sections technical expert in statistical methods and data analytics, and work closely with the section’s research teams on their respective research topics. You will need to establish a thorough understanding of the needs and requirements of our research activities, and you will need to understand these research activities in context of our stakeholders such as infrastructure users, telecom operators, regulatory authorities and ministries. You are expected to take part in the practical engineering work, hereunder to perform hands-on tasks such as the acquisition and management of tools for statistics and data analysis as well as scripting and software development.

Your Profile

We are looking for candidates that recognize themselves in the following profile:

  • Strong background in algorithms for statistics and data analytics and hands-on experience with tools and libraries to apply such techniques in practical industrial or scientific settings
  • Solid background in Linux, programming, scripting and databases as well as intermediate knowledge of IP networking and protocols 
  • The ability to collaborate closely with others, and exhibit personal initiative in order to pull processes and drive them forward to decision. 
  • Master English written and spoken language.
  • Structured working habits, and documentation as part of these habits
  • Willingness and ability to learn new technologies and adapt to changing requirements.

Earlier industrial experience will be considered an advantage.
