Role of the Network and System Engineer:

The Network and System Engineer (NSE) will maintain and support CMD’s growing network and system infrastructure in order to ensure business objectives and SLA’s.

Organizational relationships:

The NSE reports to the Head of IT and has a primary working relationship with the CMD IT network and system engineering team, the project delivery team, the support team as well as the management team, but will also interact with customers, as well as third party partners if needed.

Key responsabilities:

  • Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS)
  • Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations
  • Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability
  • Monitor system resource utilization, trending and capacity planning
  • Provide Level -2/3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues
  • Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure
  • Propose and implement security tools, policies and procedures
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel

Competences:

  • A minimum of 5 years in system and networking administration
  • Experience in a complex heterogeneous environment working with Unix compute and database servers, fileservers, firewalls and networking hardware
  • Strong OS and application knowledge with RedHat Linux, CentOS and Solaris
  • Strong virtual environment knowledge such as VMWare – ESXi
  • Strong knowledge in Databases such as MySQL, Oracle or Informix
  • Senior level in Unix system administration including NIS, NFS, DNS, DHCP and Samba
  • Expert knowledge of firewalls (Juniper, Pfsense, Sophos etc.) as well as routers and network hardware (Cisco, Sophos, Pfsense, Mikrotik etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of firewall central management applications
  • Strong knowledge of site to site VPN’s in a mesh environment
  • Knowledge of NAC (Network Access Control) systems a plus
  • Strong knowledge of Sendmail, email topologies and transport concepts
  • Knowledge of relay functions, SPAM / antivirus filtering techniques, email archiving, LDAP concepts
  • Strong knowledge of system and network monitoring systems such as PRTG
