Copenhagen Local/International Drilling Ref.: MO-057483 Maersk Oil continues to grow its well activity internationally and is now looking for an experienced drilling engineer to further enhance our capabilities and prepare to support that growth. Our Corporate Wells function is responsible for ensuring consistent operational excellence and safe reliable execution of drilling projects around the world, facilitated by effective standards and procedures, efficient knowledge sharing systems as well as efficient and cost effective procurement practices. We Offer The successful candidate will be working in the Global Wells Capability Centre section of the Corporate Wells team, established under the ‘Corporate Technology and Projects Department’. The position reports to the Director of the Global Wells Capability Centre. The position is vital in our organizational set-up, important for Maersk Oil’s continued growth and carries responsibility for both up-front well planning and subsequent follow-up during execution of some very challenging wells around the world, including some in deep water and others which are HPHT. Key Responsibilities The work involves a variety of well support work for most of our business units and exploration units globally. The team supports all of our high risk projects and business critical projects, liaising with the local well departments that have direct responsibility for those activities and providing additional well planning and subsequent technical support during the execution. In addition, the team is responsible forr drilling exploration and appraisal wells in areas around the world where Maersk Oil currently have licenses or in new areas yet to come. Such areas currently include Norway and Greenland but could expand to anywhere in the world. As capacity and competence is being established locally, i.e. a local drilling organisation in place, the role will slowly shift towards assistance and guidance of the local drilling team, enabling a smooth transition into sustained operations. The role also involves assisting with evaluating new business opportunities, both operated and non-operated. Hence, although based in Copenhagen, there is a requirement for travelling to other locations. Well planning encompasses all issues such as, insuring accurate pore pressure/fracture gradient analyses are performed, well design, cost estimating, tubular and wellhead design including assistance with tendering, coordinating and insuring accuracy of directional well plans, drilling fluids design, shallow hazards and completion of reports, etc. Work also includes close liaison with exploration & appraisal well teams to insure geological and geophysical goals are realistically planned and attainable. The role also incorporates staying abreast of emerging new technologies and bringing them forth for incorporation into well design and operations is also a key component of this job. Once operations begin, the engineer will be involved in tracking the operation and providing ongoing support to the local drilling team. This will involve regular contact with the local office throughout operations and helping to ensure that operations maintain the highest HSE standards. The team also has responsibility for providing assistance to our non-operated drilling around the globe. This support will principally be in locations where Maersk Oil does not have a local drilling team such as Kurdistan and Algeria but in some cases also supports the local teams, e.g. in the USA and the UK. The individual will also participate in other corporate-based activities. One aspect of this is to provide front-end planning for future projects or potential future projects to ensure optimal development plans can be identified in time to be able to implement new ideas. A further element of corporate activity is to assist the Corporate Well Engineering team by providing input to the development of global standards. In addition, the individual will participate in well and project reviews. Who we are looking for Engineering degree, (i.e. BSc. or MSc. Engineering). Minimum of 8 years experience working as drilling engineer is considered a must. Extensive knowledge in the practical use of StressCheck, Compass, and WellPlan, knowledge of WellCat desirable. Planning and operations experience in deep water or HPHT would be very advantageous. Personal skills include ability to interact with other disciplines, motivate people and being a good team player. The candidate should also be capable of providing good communication, effective across a broad spectrum of nationalities and cultures. High standards and drive for safety is required.
