JJ Rhatigan & Company is one of Ireland’s leading Building Contractors, with operations throughout Ireland and the UK. We are currently recruiting for a Planner. This position will be full time located in our Dublin Office.
Purpose of Role
To create, maintain, review, and administer Project programmes / schedules during the entire project lifecycle at the Tender, Pre-Construction and Construction stages.
To continually maintain and develop the quality of the JJ Rhatigan brand through support and innovation.
General Duties
- The project team of Planner, Project Manager & Contracts Manager are to be accountable for building, monitoring, analyzing and reporting on project schedules at all project lifecycle stages as required.
- Compile robust schedules to enable projects to be completed on time and within budget in conjunction with the Project Manager & Contracts Manager.
- To use own initiative in breaking large jobs down into phases of development
- Using project management tools, experience and stakeholder input to plan timeframes.
- To liaise with JJR teams to discuss the lifecycle stages of the project and to add value with experience and skills.
- To initiate / facilitate and participate in pre-construction schedule reviews with the bid and pre-construction team(s) as required.
- To attend tender briefings / tender site visits as required to fully ascertain the scope of work and site constraints.
- To liaise with external contractors and suppliers to provide accurate inputs / outputs which will drive the schedule.
- To prioritise their workload to continually work to short deadlines / tight schedules to deliver programmes / schedules for tenders or live projects.
- Build and maintain good relationships with external stakeholders such as consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Present information and highlight issues for internal review during tender and construction stages.
- To liaise with JJR’s Design Development Team and external Design stakeholders to improve both schedule and bid quality.
- To have the ability to work between offices and construction sites when necessary to support Project Teams with a ‘on the ground’ review.
- To prepare acceleration / delay mitigation schedules based on site reviews and project team inputs.
- Provides ‘what-if’ support to Projects as needed.
- To have the ability to analyze information provided by Project Teams to prepare high level reports on the progress of projects including critical path analysis and schedule performance review.
- Support the project management team in their construction stage planning, tracking, analysis, and reporting of projects.
- Work in collaboration with project management team to drive consistency of the project scheduling approach to facilitate accuracy in project execution and reporting.
- Recommend and implement modifications to existing schedules / projects to improve effectiveness and attain project milestones.
- Assist to facilitate the training of Foremen, Engineers, Site Managers & Project Managers to learn, or increase skills in, project scheduling company wide.
Commercial
- Highlight any associated risks to program early and apply appropriate mitigation measures to eliminate all program risks. Inform senior management in advance of any foreseen delays.
- To assist the commercial team and project team in the establishment and implementation of Schedule Change Control and/or Delay analysis including review and agreement of impact of project/scope changes to ensure same are incorporated in overall project schedule / progress measurement system
- To work with estimators / commercial team to calculate the preliminaries / resources required for a project’s delivery including resources required for delay mitigation.
- To highlight positive risk opportunities or potential situations where value engineering can be utilized.
- To have the ability to support cost/schedule integration.
- To be aware of the commercial sensitivity of the information they hold and produce and not to distribute externally without the consent of senior management.
Health & Safety
- Ensure site compliance with health & safety legislation and the company H&S policies management system.
- Ensure schedules’ content and timelines are compliant with relevant EH&S legislation and make reference to same where applicable.
- Ensure schedules take account of best practice and include sufficient durations for the implementation of preventative measures both temporary and permanent to allow works to progress safely.
- During the pre-construction stage communicate any foreseeable risks and hazardous interfaces with Bid & Commercial Team(s).
Quality
- Liaise with the Bid / Pre-Construction team in their compilation of construction methodologies and related submission documents.
- Use industry recognized quality checking measures to ensure schedules are robust, accurate and dynamic.
- Maintain accurate records/paperwork relating to the compilation of schedules at tender stage for streamlining the handover to the construction team on award.
Abilities & Skills
- Proficient in the use of the planning software’s ’AstaPowerproject & MS Project to create and manage a master schedule and the supporting detailed schedules, histograms, graphs etc.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
- Knowledgeable in the use of Site Progress Mobile and its integration with Asta Powerproject
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
