The role of the Global Category Specialist for mechanical and electromechanical components is to develop, plan and implement the procurement and logistics strategy for assigned categories, with a focus on optimizing costs, quality and material availability.
Reporting to the Supply Manager of Distribution Solutions’ local division in Vaasa, Finland, you will ensure execution in accordance with instructions and procedures from the company, the Procurement and Logistics function, and supply base management. You can be based at any ABB location in Finland (e.g. Helsinki, Vaasa, Tampere, Porvoo, Turku etc).
Your responsibilities
- Identifying and selecting appropriate raw materials, tooling, manufacturers and distributors, focusing on quality, availability, reliability, cost and sustainability in accordance with the company policies and strategies
- Predicting future trends and needs, staying up to date with changing technology and demand
- Creating and executing global sourcing strategy for the categories, especially for single source components and raw materials
- Negotiating with main component manufacturers, and periodically renewing price lists, agreements, terms and conditions
- Acting as an interface between engineering, R&D, local and global Supply Chain Management (SCM) teams, suppliers, distributors and Division’s / Business Area’s category teams
- Designing and implementing cost-out, quality, availability programs and processes with other stakeholders to reach financial targets
- Developing the best-in-class global supply chains for components according to Total Cost of Ownership
Your background
- Five to 10 years’ work experience in category or commodity management in Mechanics or similar knowledge. Experience from mechanical engineering and/or from EMS (electronic manufacturing services) business is a strong advantage
- Knowledge of MS Office with excellent skills in Excel, knowledge of SAP is an advantage
- An analytical, problem solving and results-oriented approach
- Strong communication and negotiation skills and a willingness to travel
- Ability to work with cross functional teams such as R&D, New Product Introduction, quality, production, engineering, SCM, EMS suppliers, distributors
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering is preferred
- Fluent written and spoken English skills. Finnish is an advantage
