CREWING MANAGER
We are looking for candidates for the following position in our Terneuzen office:
Crewing Manager
Our most important objective is a safe operation. As Crewing Manager you have the ultimate responsibility for crews on board in support of this main objective. You develop, maintain and improve manning pools and address and solve crewing issues in close cooperation with the Fleet Managers and Crewing Officers. You ensure that each vessel managed by VSM is manned with qualified seafarers in accordance with the defined crewing and vessel policies and procedures, by managing the selection, recruitment and efficient planning of all seafarers, directly or through manning agents, in accordance with QA and Crewing procedures. Auditing these manning agents is also part of the job as Crewing Manager. You establish, execute and are responsible for annual crew plans and budgets in cooperation with the Managing Director and you anticipate future company and crew developments. Through your department you ensure the control of documentations, appraisal process for seafarers’ performance and identify and meet training needs of seagoing personnel. You establish and maintain a seafarers’ training and development plan. Furthermore you will be accountable for the application of MLC 2006 and Crewing Department procedures and for their delivery by the crewing team. Additionally to these responsibilities it is required that you stay informed regarding all (inter)national regulations on crewing requirements and you are aware of relevant manning developments, e.g. ILO, Flag state administrations, TMSA requirements, crewing matrixes, vetting inspections, etc. In this position you report to the Managing Director.
To excel in this function you should have a Bachelor’s degree (i.e. Maritime Operations/ Ship Management, Business Administration, Business Economics or HR Management). You have at least 5 years’ ship management experience, ideally in Crewing, gained in the shipping industry and proven managerial skills. You possess excellent knowledge of (international) crewing regulations (including flag state requirements, STCW, BIMCO, ILO, MLC 2006, etc.), social security and labour acts related to maritime employment and expertise in all aspects of general Crewing practices.
