Applications & Systems Integration Engineer – Analytical Chemistry on High-Resolution Liquid Chromatography Coupled to Tandem Mass Spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) and Other Detectors (Ref.57.25.423)

Job Duties

The job duties will be the following:

• Responsible for the daily management, operation and maintenance of a high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS);
• Train other users for equipment operation at basic level;
• Perform the analysis of water and food samples by ultra or high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS), and other detectors (i.e., UVvis and fluorescence) for organic contaminants and biotoxins detection and quantification;
• Sample preparation (i.e., clean-up and preconcentration) using solid phase (micro) extraction, liquid-liquid extraction, etc.;
• Develop and implement new methods and protocols for sample preparation and analysis with the techniques explained above;
• Ensure Quality Assurance/Quality Control measures are implemented when relevant;
• Produce technical and scientific documentation for work planning and project reporting;
• Participate in the writing of research articles to be published in high impact journals in the environmental sciences area.

Education

• MSc in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food or Environmental Sciences, or similar fields.

Experience and Technical Skills

• Experience in analysis of water and food samples by ultra or high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS);
• Experience in sample preparation (i.e., clean-up and preconcentration) using solid phase (micro) extraction, liquid-liquid extraction, etc.;
• Experience in development and implementation of new methods and protocols for sample preparation and analysis with the techniques explained above;
• Experience in the other analytical chemistry techniques (e.g., HPLC-DAD, FLD, UVvis spectroscopy, spectrofluorometry).

Other Valued Skills and Qualifications

• Experience in analytical chemistry equipment maintenance and troubleshooting;
• PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food or Environmental Sciences, or similar fields.
