The Role:

As Junior Process Design Engineer, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team to bring water and wastewater infrastructure projects from concept stage through to Construction, Commissioning and into Operations. In this end-to end role you will work to develop engineering design solutions to meet the Client’s needs following these through to the process commissioning stage to ensure the successful outcome of the project.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

The main duties and responsibilities of the Junior Process Design Engineer are outlined as follows:

  • Work as part of a team in the delivery of one or more projects at any one time, embracing the ethos of a “one team” culture.
  • Ensure Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability standards, policies and procedures are developed into the proposed designs.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with all key stakeholders including clients, client representatives and third-party agencies.
  • Ensure a positive experience for the client and their representatives instilling an ethos of collaboration and cooperation.
  • Take design inputs such as project brief and develop design options presenting these to the Design Manager and wider project teams.
  • Review project briefs and Employers’ Requirements, seek clarification to confirm scope definition required.
  • Ensure a thorough understanding of projects, objectives and required outcomes. Ensure these objectives are followed through with the proposed design.
  • Make computations of process and hydraulic design including process flow diagrams (PFD), mass / energy balance, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), Motor and Equipment list (M&I), Layout and mechanical design, Hydraulic profile, process descriptions and equipment specifications
  • Prepare contractor’s design technical proposals and drawings, ensuring all submissions maintain a good quality in-line with Glanua standards and client’s technical specifications.
  • Prepare process control philosophies to ensure the design intent is carried forward into the automated functionality of the water or wastewater treatment plant.
  • Take ownership of allocated tasks and ensure design activities are completed in a timely manner and report on progress to the Process Lead.
  • Respond to any client queries or clarifications which may arise from the design review process expeditiously.
  • Conduct Site Assessments and prepare Site Assessment Reports as required making recommendations on potential design solutions.
  • Assist Process Lead at design review workshops and HAZOPs, ensuring all resulting actions are closed in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the compilation of Tender Stage design proposals from time to time as required.
  • Seek to improve the process design delivery process by providing lessons learned feedback and innovative solutions for adoption on future projects.
  • Keep appraised of the latest standards and technology through continuous professional development (CPD).
  • Other duties as required from time to time.

 Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

The main knowledge, skills and experience required of the Junior Process Design Engineer are outlined as follows:

  • Minimum of a Level 8 Honours Degree in applicable Engineering qualification such as Chemical, Water/Wastewater or Environmental Engineering.
  • Minimum of 1 years’ experience working in a similar role, preferably in the water and wastewater industry.
  • Ability to interact, update and manage digital information using CDE, such as BIM360.
  • Ability to work under pressure to deliver design submissions and respond to queries.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the client and their representatives in leading and developing design solutions.
  • Ability to use own initiative, problem solve and adjust as issues arise during design or process commissioning.
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS packages such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
  • Strong communication skills with a high level of motivation.
  • Full Driving License.
