The Application Software Group (ASG)



A part of the R&D organization is the application software group (ASG), which is committed to bringing value-adding and game changing software solutions to our customers that help them with their success. The application software group is a multi-site development organization divided over the R&D sites in Eindhoven (the Netherlands), Bordeaux (France), Hillsboro (US), Brno (Czech), and Canberra (Australia). The ASG organization in Eindhoven consists of around 30 software engineers and focusses on application software on top of high-end TEM electron microscopes.





Position



Within Eindhoven we have a challenging position for a talented Technical Lead Architect Software in the sciences application software team in Eindhoven (part of ASG). This team is responsible for the development of online application software for Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM) which hides the system complexity by focusing on ease-of use and automation of customer experiments. Current applications are for example automated tomography and single particle acquisition.



The Technical Lead Architect Software will be part of an enthusiastic team. You will be responsible for the full software development cycle of new features, product enhancement and new applications. Your assignment will be a mixture of the following activities:

•Architecture, design, implementation test and integration of software in FEI products

•Drive the architectural software roadmap of applications. Implement and integrate while making practical development choices given limited design information and defined delivery schedules

•Authoritative owner and driver of the FEI software architecture

•Software specifications based on system performance and customer application requirements in cooperation with product management

•Full system software development from the embedded platform up-to the operator facing applications

•Participate hands-on in the development of software

The ideal candidate for this position enjoys working in a multi-disciplinary technical environment to solve complex technical problems. If you enjoy the development of software solutions on top of high-performance systems, this is an excellent opportunity to change the world. The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:

•Typically requires, BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Informatics, or related technical software discipline

•7 years’ experience in object oriented development of technical software for high-tech equipment. Experience with embedded SW platform development is a pre.

•Preference for development experience on top of highly-integrated, high-performance systems used in semiconductor capital equipment or related industries. At a minimum, development experience with medium sized software applications

•Must demonstrate clear ability to develop effective integration software for complex, high-performance sub-systems

•Able to work on diverse objectives and problems where analysis of situation or data requires an evaluation of identifiable factors

•Knowledge of interoperability between different programming languages

•Ability to handle diverse objectives and problems where analysis of situation or data

Qualified candidates should have proven ability to program using one or more of the following languages and techniques within the listed development environments:

•Object Oriented design and State Modeling

•C#/.NET (WPF/Prism, Winforms/CAB, WCF)

•Visual Studio, Windows XP/7



Further preference given for hands on experience with one or more of the following areas:

•Agile/Scrum Development

•Model Driven designs and Domain Specific languages

•Component Development (ATL/COM)

•C++ (STL/Boost)



Personal skills

•Excellent interpersonal communications skills are required due to the high degree of interaction and collaboration (multi-site)

•Good communicational skills (both written and verbal) and good knowledge of English

•As a Technical Lead Architect Software you should show leadership, decisiveness and ability to influence your stakeholders to deploy software architecture changes and development methods (influence without authority) in a multidisciplinary environment

•Strong analytical view combined with a pragmatic and hands-on attitude (flexibility)

•Value orientation, getting to the essence, setting and acting according to priorities

•Results-driven

•Proactively and self-responsibility

•Curious, fast learning (mostly on the job)

•Candidate must be able to work in a cross-disciplinary scrum team in a dynamic product development environment
