The National Food Institute (DTU Food), which is a department at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), invites applications for a position as Associate Professor in Food Production Engineering.



The research in the Research Group of Food Production Engineering is concerned with the engineering aspects of food production systems and product / process innovation. Focus is on a deeper mechanistic, primarily physical and chemical, understanding of food processing. This is supported by mathematical modeling and the use of advanced methods for monitoring of food production systems from single unit operations to operation of complex lines and distribution systems.



Responsibilities and tasks

Candidates are expected to join and take a leading part in the current research activities in the food engineering area, primarily concerning mechanistic understanding of solid food production and æprocess optimization including novel technologies, which include on-going research projects in collaboration with industry. Candidates are also expected in their career to deepen and expand their research activities and fund-raise for developing their research area.



Candidates are expected to take on teaching responsibilities on undergraduate as well as on graduate level, primarily in established courses in food technology and engineering but also to take initiative in developing courses on MSc and PhD level. Candidates are expected to supervise on BSc, MSc, and PhD level.



The candidate is expected to engage in innovation activities in relation to food technology in a broad sense.



There will be close collaboration with the industry and an extensive cross-disciplinary collaboration with other departments at DTU.



Qualifications

Candidates must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an Assistant Professorship and be able to document didactic/pedagogic training. Furthermore the candidate should have:

•a sufficient scientific background in food technology and engineering for a smooth engagement in the research group’s on-going research and teaching

•a solid theoretical and practical understanding of process calculations and the effect of process conditions on relevant quality parameters

•experience with industrial collaboration

•experience with supervision of students

•must be familiar with writing scientific proposals.



Applicants must have good communication skills and a preference and motivation for working in a multi-disciplinary research environment.



Assessment

In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to

•scientific production and research potential at an international level

•the ability to promote and utilize research results

•experience in teaching and education

•an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience

•the ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation



For the specific position consideration will also be given to:

•Experience from industry or from research collaboration with industry.

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
