The responsibilities of a nursing home always include helping residents bathe, dress, eat, get up and down, walk, and use wheelchairs or walkersand, use the toilet when they require such assistance. Also monitor patients' conditions and assess their vital signs. Other duties include noting any physical or mental decline and reporting back to the doctor. Staff members should also know how to maintain the dignity of residents while performing these services.
Nursing positions require an associate or a bachelor's degree in nursing. Management-level jobs often require at least a bachelor's degree in healthcare administration or a related subject and extensive experience. Support staff may need a high school diploma or postsecondary certificate in medical assisting.
