The Platform Software Group



A part of the R&D organization is the platform Software Group. This group is responsible for the development of microscope control software for Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM), like optics and motion control as well as image and data acquisition.



This group is committed to bring value-adding and game changing software solutions to our customers that help them with their success. The application software group is a multi-site development organization divided over the R&D sites in Eindhoven (the Netherlands), Brno (Czech), and Russia. The platform organization in Eindhoven consists of around 40 software engineers.

Job description

Within Eindhoven we have a challenging position for a talented software configuration management (SCM) engineer within the platform software team in Eindhoven. This group is responsible for the development of microscope control software for Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM). The software configuration management (SCM) engineer will be part of an enthusiastic team. Your assignment will be a mixture of the following activities:

* Monitor build and smoke test results and trigger actions if needed

* Analyze root causes of failed builds and smoke tests in a structured manner

* Perform rebases from and deliveries to the main stream to synchronize software with the other development teams

* Ensure stability of the software under development

* Solve issues with high priority in close cooperation with engineers

* Be the bridge between your development team, the Product Quality Assurance (PQA) team and the SCM team

* Continuously improve the build and test infrastructure, monitor its performance and in case of infrastructural problems solve it in close cooperation with the SCM team and/or IT department

* Participate in SCM scrum meetings and contribute to SCM process improvements

Requirements & Skills

The ideal candidate for this position enjoys working in a multi-disciplinary technical environment to solve complex technical problems. If you are energized by solving such problems, while maintaining a highly stable software archive for high-performance systems, this is an excellent opportunity to change the world. The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:

* Typically a college degree (Ba/BSc) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical software discipline

* At least 2 years of experience in a comparable role in a professional software development organization



Qualified candidates should have proven knowledge and experience in the following topics and technologies:

* Software configuration management processes and tooling

* Version control systems (e.g. Git/Github, RTC)

* Automated build systems based upon Visual Studio

* Build management and tooling (Jenkins)

* Virtualization software (VMware, VDI)

* SW quality tooling (Tiobe TICS, Bullseye)

* Merge tooling

* Agile/scrum development

* (Preferably) programming languages C++, C# and/or Python

* (Preferably) test software



Personal skills

* Excellent interpersonal communications skills are required due to the high degree of interaction and collaboration (multi-site)

* Good communicational skills (both written and verbal) and good knowledge of English

* A team player within a dynamic environment

* Strong analytical view combined with a pragmatic and hands-on attitude (flexibility)

* Value orientation, getting to the essence, setting and acting according to priorities

* Proactively and self-responsibility

* Quality oriented mind-set

* Curious, fast learning (mostly on the job)

* Candidate must be able to work in a scrum team in a dynamic product development environment
