The Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine (GIMM) is a pioneering Portuguese private research foundation dedicated to advancing knowledge in life sciences and molecular medicine. Officially established in October 2024 following the merger of two leading research institutes, the Instituto de Medicina Molecular João Lobo Antunes (iMM) and the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC), GIMM represents a bold step towards uniting excellence in biomedical discovery and translational research.

Located across Lisbon and Oeiras, GIMM brings together hundreds of scientists from diverse backgrounds and nationalities working across fields such as immunology, neuroscience, infection biology, genomics, cell biology, and developmental biology. The institute’s mission is to unravel the molecular mechanisms of life, transform scientific discoveries into impact, and cultivate an inclusive, international community of researchers driven by curiosity and collaboration.

With world-class facilities, a vibrant scientific ecosystem, and strong institutional support, GIMM aims to become a global reference in molecular medicine. The institute embodies both the heritage of its founding institutions and the ambition to define new standards of excellence, fostering innovation, training future generations of scientists, and promoting research that benefits humanity.
