Working in Kalundborg

Kalundborg is in the middle of a historic growth that isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. Established industrial plants are expanding and new companies are setting up shop here. Our city is home to the world’s largest insulin production plant, the world’s largest enzyme production plant and the world leading industrial symbiosis. And that’s not all, here’s also many smaller companies and startups, a lively education hub and a unique community, working together to improve our local environment.

And if you want to be part of this fast-growing business community, there are lots of interesting opportunities available – whether you want to find your dream job or start your own company.

A rapidly growing community

Just last year, over 1,200 new jobs were created within Kalundborg municipality, and the growth is expected to continue.

For many years, the local educational institutions and local companies have been working closely together to ensure that research, innovation, and highly skilled employees are shared across the business community, which is a significant advantage to the many companies operating within the biotech and pharmaceutical industries.

An ambitious community

Kalundborg is home to the unique network, the Biotech Alliance, which is a close collaboration between local companies, educational institutions and public stakeholders collaborate. The grand vision of this network is to support and strengthen the local industries, expand the educational opportunities, and further the green transition. The collaboration is based on the model known as the "Kalundborg Model," which emphasizes cooperation, strong partnerships, and collective efforts.

The business community is comprised of a few large global production companies, a considerable number of medium-sized and small enterprises, as well as a thriving group of entrepreneurs. This is mainly caused by the fact that a large part of the municipality's operation is geared towards the needs of the business community. This includes the sale of attractive business sites in the area and business services that offer advice on everything from building applications to environmental regulations. There are also tight networks across companies, the private sector and the public sector.

A sustainable and green community

The world-leading industrial symbiosis, Kalundborg Symbiose, is also based in Kalundborg and includes a number of public and private companies. The symbiosis takes a circular approach to production, whereby one company's surplus of energy, water, and residual materials creates value for another company.

For more than 50 years, this partnership model has fostered sustainable growth through collaboration, and new projects continue to be developed to support the green transition in the local business community.

Most of all, we just think that Kalundborg is a wonderful place to live, work and study – close to nature and each other.
