Senior Mechanical Engineer handling high voltage cables for offshore wind farms

The department is part of Wind Power, which has 1400 employees and is one of five business unit in DONG Energy. Wind Power is the world’s largest developer and operator of offshore wind power, and we use our unique knowledge in all phases of our wind turbine projects. For the last 20 years, we have developed and constructed the largest portfolio of offshore wind farms in Northern Europe. You may choose freely to be based either in our office in Skærbæk near Fredericia or in Gentofte in the Greater Copenhagen area. You should, however, expect some travelling in Northern Europe in relation to your work. Areas of responsibility You will be our specialist within structural design of HV cable solutions and its accessories. As our polymer and metal material expert, you will be responsible for the structural evaluation of design solutions of our offshore cable systems and accessories. Your key tasks will be to ensure the structural integrity of the HV cable solutions in our offshore wind farms and assist in re-evaluating the conditions for cables in existing wind farms. All in order to ensure top-performing HV cable assets throughout the wind farm design life time. This will include tasks such as making structural assessments of cables and cable protection systems, preparing scope for invitations to tender, handling technical evaluation of tenders and development, and testing technical solutions in cooperation with sub-suppliers. In addition, you will be responsible for structural design in our various development projects for HV cables, dealing with design development, manufacturer interaction and problem solving. You will handle these tasks in cooperation with our structural engineers in the Foundation Design Department, composite material specialists in the Technical Components & Systems department and with our cable experts in the HV Cables department. You will use your knowledge within structural dynamics, HV cables and materials to ensure durable HV cable solutions suitable for both transport, installation and various operational situations throughout the wind farm design lifetime with due consideration to the harsh offshore environment. In addition, you will participate in technical and commercial negotiations as well as internal and external clarifications, and you will prepare functional requirements and tender documents. You will also handle the structural interface between the foundations and the HV cables and ensure and incorporate lessons learnt. Your profile You are a skilled engineer with knowledge of viscoelastic composite materials consisting of glass fibre, carbon fibre, aluminium, copper and steel, and you are willing to learn and use your knowledge about HV cable solutions. You could also be a HV cable engineer with senior knowledge of the structural setup of cables and experience in fatigue considerations as well as armour design. You are a good communicator with solid negotiation skills, who can handle both communication with many stakeholders and negotiate at many different levels. Moreover, you speak and write English fluently, enabling you to operate efficiently in an international environment. Taking a practical and commercial approach to your work, you possess the perseverance to execute on assignments.
