Property underwriter (m/f/d) in Cologne - Germany
Our renowned client Sompo International, is a specialty provider of property and casualty insurance and reinsurance. It’s core business encompasses one of the largest property and casualty insurance groups in the Japanese domestic market. In addition, our client is engaged in the provision of insurance services as well as other related services through its global network of businesses operating in 32 countries around the world.
Randstad is seeking a Property Underwriter for this insurance company in Germany. The office will be in Cologne. The candidate will strengthen the Underwriting team based in Germany on various European underwriting matters.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Underwriting of risks in accordance with corporate philosophy and underwriting strategy
- Risk management activities and IT-system entry and maintenance of underwriting data
- Developing and maintaining strong and effective working relationship with brokers and clients in cooperation with other branch Divisions concerned
- Keeping Line Manager informed of market trends and developments
- Supporting Line Manager in monitoring of the underwriting performance of the business
- Supporting Line Manager in developing and recording of technical underwriting standards in
- respect of the lines of business appointed for regular handling
- Informing Line Manager about developments regarding the assigned Property portfolio
- Providing support in relation to the branch ́s general responsibilities and to represent the Branch on external market forum where appropriate
- Handling of ad hoc assignments as delegated by Line Manager
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Adequate examination and/or some years of technical insurance experience
- Enhanced understanding of underwriting business
- Enhanced understanding about legal and regulatory guidelines concerning classes of business allocated for regular business treatment
- Enhanced level of business awareness in line with good negotiating skills
- Enhanced communication skills in writing and verbal
- Ability to effectively assess risk by analytical skills; good judgment and problem-solving ability
- Demonstrated technical knowledge and skills reflective of progression of positions of increasing responsibility
- Solid knowledge of processing methods and workflow procedures, and basic knowledge of
- insurance underwriting and regulations for assigned countries/territories abroad
- Enhanced organizational skills in prioritizing work, multitasking and consistently meeting deadlines
- PC literate with a thorough knowledge of standard MS applications
- Ability to function in a team environment
- Good language skills in German and English both verbally and in writing;
- Italian would be considered as a strong asset.
