DTU Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a position as Professor in Engineering Geology and Petrophysics. The professor will be affiliated with the Interdisciplinary Energy Resources Engineering Center at DTU.



DTU Civil Engineering is a department with the overall mission of contributing to research, development and education within the following scientific areas: construction materials, concrete properties, construction structural design, fire safety, indoor environment, geotechnics, geology and solar energy.



The Section of Geotechnics and Geology holds a close collaboration with all the other sections within the department of Civil Engineering. Additionally the section is engaged in joint research and education programs within the scope of CERE and ARTEK centers, which also involve a number of other DTU departments.



The professor will be attached to the section of Geotechnics and Geology, one of the 6 sections comprising the department. This section presently employs 6 persons including faculty in the area of Engineering Geology and Petrophysics.



Responsibilities and tasks

Through the professorship DTU wishes to strengthen and develop the area within Engineering Geology and Petrophysics. The duties consist of research, teaching, innovation or public sector consultancy:

•Research

•Research-based teaching

•Academic leadership – in order to strengthen and develop the specific field

•External collaboration

•Other duties:

o Innovation and/or public-sector consultancy

o Knowledge sharing with the public

o Educational guidance and supervision of assistant professors and researchers

o Academic assessment work.



The professor is expected to facilitate collaboration on cross-disciplinary projects and to take part in work with government agencies. Furthermore he or she is expected to form and manage theme based research groups and the candidate must be able to take academic leadership.



Collaborative research together with the newly established Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Technology Centre at DTU will be increasingly in the focus of the department and it is expected that the Professor will contribute significantly to this.



The successful candidate is expected to take a lead position in teaching at the bachelor-, master- and PhD levels.



Qualifications

Professors are expected to make a special effort as regards to research/innovation and research management. Generally speaking, professors are expected to perform over and above the qualification requirements for the post which are as follows:

•A high degree of original scientific production at international level that has contributed to the further development of the area of engineering geology and petrophysics

•Documented and successful teaching experience at various different levels within the courses offered by the university, particularly at the PhD level

•Documented experience in research management, including the performance of management tasks linked to national or international projects, research programmes, conferences, etc.



The professor is expected to have research experience in several of the following specific themes:

•Experience with sediments and sedimentary rocks covering a wide range of stiffness

•Experimental methods for investigating properties of soils and rocks

•Rock-fluid interaction.

•Petrography

•Petrophysics

•Integration of petrophysical and petrographic data

•Integration of petrophysics and rock physics

•Rock physical modelling





Assessment

In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to

•the ability to teach

•scientific production at international level, research potential and ability to lead and develop a research team

•the ability to promote and utilize research results

•experience with innovation activities

•an all-round experience basis, including international experience

•the ability to contribute to the development of the Department’s internal and external cooperation

•track record in attracting funding to the research area

•visions within the research area



Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
