Early Stage Researcher (ESR) position for integrated quality control of precision assemblies

Description: Dimensional CT metrology is interesting for quality control of assemblies in their assembled states, since the geometry and dimensions of components may differ in unassembled and assembled state: an assembly may fail geometrically, even if all individual elements of the assembly meet the tolerances when unassembled. You will perform: a) a state-of-the-art study concerning assembly verification (theory and modelling of virtual assembly including voxel data modelling) and tolerance assessment on assemblies; b) a theoretical analysis with generation of synthetic assembly models (different combination of densities in the different parts) and selection of proper assembly case studies for estimating contact areas, determination of assembly parameter and development of calibration procedures; c) an experimental investigation with scanning campaigns involving two different scanners (preliminary experimental investigation to optimize scanning parameter settings and final scans); d) assembly verification on voxel data, using different software; e) assembly verification on stl-data, using different stl-generation algorithms and different software; f) data analysis and comparison of results. Therefore, you will benefit from interaction with ESR 5 (secondment at UNIPD) for realising traceability and with NOVO for ensuring actual industrial applicability and for validation cases.

Secondments: During this project, you will do a secondment (of a few months) to UNIPD (Universita degli studi di Padova, Italy) and Novo Nordisk (Denmark)

Duration: 36 months (enrolment in a PhD program at DTU)
