Job title: Night Porter
Department: Nights Purpose of job: Under the general guidelines of the
Assistant Manager, to provide a warm, friendly and efficient food and beverage service to our guests, ensuring exceptional service standards are delivered and maintained at all times in line with our guest expectations.
Reports to: Night Manager/Assistant Manager (Rooms)

Customer care:
- To ensure all guests receive a genuine, warm, friendly, courteous welcome on arrival and during their stay
- To anticipate guests needs whenever possible to enhance quality service and in turn enhance guest satisfaction
- To assist guests at all times
- To become fully aware of 100% guest satisfaction and to implement agreed practices at all times
- To ensure all guest queries are handled promptly and efficiently
- To use initiative in relation to the speedy resolution of guests queries or problems
- To report on all guest feedback to a Manager
Quality:
- To reflect and enhance the hotel’s mission statement and objectives in all activities
- To ensure all departmental checklists are completed and checked by supervisor before going of duty
- To assist in improving results of customer services indices where necessary
Standards:
- To carry out departmental standards in accordance with the SOP manual
- To ensure hotel standards are achieved at all times
- To assist in ensuring that standards are maintained
- To wear agreed uniform and to maintain uniform according to the agreed standard
- To ensure that the highest possible standard of personal hygiene, dress, appearance, body language and conduct is maintained at all times
Training:
- To deliver departmental service promise, service recovery and to carry out agreed practices to ensure guests receive 100% satisfaction
- To attend all statutory training
- To attend other training sessions as per the departmental training plan or as when required by management
- To assist as much as reasonable in the coaching and training of new staff
Flexibility:
- To accept flexible work schedule necessary for uninterrupted service to hotel guest.
- To provide support where necessary in other areas of the hotel
- To give full cooperation to any colleague or guest requiring assistance in a prompt caring, helpful manner and to be flexible in assisting around the hotel in response to business and client needs
Health & Safety responsibilities:
- To ensure all accident, incidents and suspicious occurrences are reported to the relevant people and to assist in providing all relevant backup
- To maintain own working area tidy and in good shape. To report defective materials and equipment to appropriate individual
- To be familiar with and adhere to all rules and regulations of the hotel with specific regard to:
- Hygiene
- Fire procedures
- Health and safety at work
- Security regulations
Morale and motivation:
- To work with the management team to ensure good morale is maintained within the team at all times
- To assist the Departmental Manager in identifying any problem areas and to assist in the resolutions of same
Communication:
- To maintain good liaisons and communications with management and all other departments
- To regularly attend monthly departmental meetings
- To attend any other meeting as necessary
Sales and costs:
- To assist in positively promoting sales within the department and maximize every sales opportunity.
- To assist in controlling departmental costs within the standards set by the departmental manager.
- To assist in stock control measures implemented, in order to achieve budgeted profit margins
- To ensure security of cash, stock and equipment and to carry out all agreed departmental/Hotel procedures
- To be aware of Hotel promotions or special activities going on in the Hotel/area
Other:
- To carry out any other reasonable tasks as requested by management
Key Responsibilities:
- To carry out all night duties to the standards as laid down in the standard of performance manuals
- To assist in achieving goals in relation to mystery audits and all customer feedback platforms
- Ensure that all guests’ requests and queries are responded to promptly and effectively and an exceptional service is delivered to guests at all times
- The service of drinks when the night bar is closed
- To make and prepare any food if required
- To vacuum and clean all public areas e.g. reception, lobby, food and beverage areas
- To thoroughly clean all toilets
- To vacuum all front of house areas and corridors
- To assist with the checking in/out of guests
- To answer any queries from guests
- To carry guests luggage to and from bedrooms
- To assist guests group and tour luggage
- To promote and sell hotel facilities at all times
- To make all early morning calls
- To ensure all guests food and drink is charged for
- To supply additional items to guest bedrooms eg. Cots, irons etc.
- To man the reception desk in the absence of the night manager and to answer guest queries and telephone calls
- To ensure compliance with ISP policy when handling guest information
- To carry out security check rounds during the night and ensure a high level of security
- To carry out fire walks using FireCloud
- To ensure that fire exits, stairs and corridors are at all times kept free from obstructions
- To ensure all areas are locked up in the evening
- To be fully conversant with the fire procedures for the whole hotel, assist in the fire evacuation as directed by the Night Manager
- To be vigilant with regard to suspicious guests on the premises
- To report any suspicious happenings to management
- To clean the front doors each night
- To clean the exterior areas of the building
- To carry out weekly, monthly and yearly cleaning as directed by the night manager or head porter
- To attend weekly/monthly team meetings as requested
- To assist in the training of new team members
- To control the amount of cleaning materials/guest supplies used in your area.
- To carry out cleaning duties as requested by the night manager/management
- To be aware of the hotel procedures with regard tom fire safety, health & safety and GDPR.
- To give a full comprehensive passover to the person taking over from you
- To assist in other areas of the hotel as requested by management
- To assist in the successful preopening/opening of the hotel
- To carry out any other reasonable request by Management
