Early Stage Researcher (ESR) position for the development of advanced segmentation algorithms

Description: In this project, you will approach improvements in the area of segmentation from two sides. First, you will identify and take into account the maximum information retrievable within a CT data set. Second, you will use information from additional sources. You will develop advanced segmentation algorithms, using a-priori information, multi-modal and multi-scale data, structural information and pattern recognition as well as a combination of those approaches. You will investigate if state-of-the-art approaches from 2D can be adapted for 3D data with the necessary optimizations towards performance and memory consumption. To ensure relevance and applicability, you will cooperate with other researchers to obtain input on relevant parameters for different applications as well as to validate the algorithms developed. The cooperations will be furthered by secondments between the partners.

Secondments: During this project, you will do a secondment (of a few months) to UNIPD (Universita degli studi di Padova, Italy) and KU Leuven (Belgium)

Duration: 36 months (enrolment in a PhD program at KU Leuven)

Envisaged job starting date: between November, 1st 2013 and March, 31st 2014
