Senior Solutions Engineers are members of EMC’s Cross-Business Unit (X-BU) Solutions Engineering staff that work with cross functional teams to architect, build, validate and document industry-leading Proven Solutions for EMC’s field sales organization, partners and customers. In addition, the Senior Solutions Engineer also advocates EMC’s Solutions through partner and customer technical roundtable briefings, global event support, social media and via knowledge transfer sessions in the form of webcasts. 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Considered an SME in one or more technology areas in order to contribute towards the delivery of the end-to-end aspects of a Cloud-based EMC Solution infrastructure, including both core EMC technologies and also partner technologies such as Microsoft Systems Center and VMWare vCloud Private Cloud solutions and frameworks. Should also have a developer background/experience that encompasses the major technical skills outlined below.

 

Responsible primarily for the development of cloud-framework VMWare vCloud and Microsoft Private Cloud automation plug-ins and automated scripting to enable automated tasks/solutions (automated O/S and application deployments, configuration and enabling of application-based services) for Microsoft-based operating systems and applications in an orchestrated as-a-service cloud infrastructure.

 

Identify and drive requirements to various EMC Engineering business units in order to create, expand and sustain interoperability of EMC technologies with cloud-based orchestration frameworks through an API and Plug-in approach.

 

Assess project requirements and influence solution design and decision-making process to identify robust and advanced solutions, supported by published plug-ins, scripts, supported by technical documentation and training materials. Provide technical consulting using best-practice design and deployment techniques for solutions to EMC field and customers. Advise on future solution enhancements.

 

Develop, build, test and document Cloud-based Application-as-a-Service solutions, within the structure of the Strategic Solutions Group, for the market place which requires regular use of ingenuity and creativity. 

 

The technologies include partner technologies, both hardware and software, to integrate and qualify as part of the Solutions Lifecycle. Create, publish and maintain technical documentation for the reference library. Communicates progress toward project/program goals.

 

Provide leadership for the development of technical solutions, white papers, presentations, and demonstrations.  Provide support for trade shows, field sales and customer briefings. Participate as required in internal beta tests for new products in conjunction with EMC Engineering groups.

Able to handle multiple projects of moderate complexity simultaneously. Shows initiative and may lead projects.

Technical Ability (Cloud)


  • 6+ years of IT infrastructure environments, datacenter and IT solutions
  • 1 to 2+ years’ experience as a software developer preferably in a Cloud/Service Provider environment, although not a pre-requisite.
  • Excellent knowledge of object oriented concepts
  • Excellent knowledge and working experience of automation, deployment and administration of Windows Server operating systems
  • Good, working knowledge of Microsoft applications such as SharePoint, Exchange, SQL Server
  • Experience with Datacenter administration (including networking, storage, systems)
  • Excellent Scripting knowledge using one or more of the following – C#, vbScript, .Net, JavaScript, Powershell, BASH, Perl
  • Capable of writing plugins (middleware components) for integrating different systems
  • Good working knowledge of web technologies such as IIS, Apache, HTML, XML, Java, .Net, JSON, XML, Servlets
  • Experience in developing with the Spring framework – with frameworks ex: Spring framework
  • Good  working experience with RESTful, SOAP web services
  • Preferably a knowledge of VMWare technologies would be ideal or virtualization technologies
  • Strong knowledge of databases
  • Experience with role based portals development and orchestration technologies in a multi-tenant environment.
  • Ability to understand technology trends and conceptualize solutions which incorporate those trends
