Senior Solutions Engineer

Work with a team to design, create and document EMC Proven Application solutions within the VMWare vCloud Suite

• Design automation and deployment of applications within VMware Cloud technology stack
• Create automation runbooks and deployments
• Create integration between As-a-Service deployments, EMC technologies and VMware
• Finalize, document and publish scripting solutions to field partners for re-use in customer installations

Considered an SME in one or more technology areas in order to contribute towards the delivery of the end-to-end aspects of a Cloud-based EMC Solution infrastructure, including both core EMC technologies and also partner technologies such as Microsoft Systems Center and VMWare vCloud Private Cloud solutions and frameworks. Should also have a developer background/experience that encompasses the major technical skills outlined below.

• Responsible primarily for the development of cloud-framework VMWare vCloud and Microsoft Private Cloud automation plug-ins and automated scripting to enable automated tasks/solutions (automated O/S and application deployments, configuration and enabling of application-based services) for Microsoft-based operating systems and applications in an orchestrated as-a-service cloud infrastructure.

• Identify and drive requirements to various EMC Engineering business units in order to create, expand and sustain interoperability of EMC technologies with cloud-based orchestration frameworks through an API and Plug-in approach.
•  Assess project requirements and influence solution design and decision-making process to identify robust and advanced solutions, supported by published plug-ins, scripts, supported by technical documentation and training materials. Provide technical consulting using best-practice design and deployment techniques for solutions to EMC field and customers. Advise on future solution enhancements. 

• Develop, build, test and document Cloud-based Application-as-a-Service solutions, within the structure of the Strategic Solutions Group, for the market place which requires regular use of ingenuity and creativity.  

• The technologies include partner technologies, both hardware and software, to integrate and qualify as part of the Solutions Lifecycle. Create, publish and maintain technical documentation for the reference library. Communicates progress toward project/program goals. 

• Provide leadership for the development of technical solutions, white papers, presentations, and demonstrations.  Provide support for trade shows, field sales and customer briefings. Participate as required in internal beta tests for new products in conjunction with EMC Engineering groups.
• Able to handle multiple projects of moderate complexity simultaneously. Shows initiative and may lead projects.

Skills

• Deep technical skills, and proven experience in a specific area (examples, Scripting and Automation, VMware, Cloud Technologies)
• Broad technical experience of designing and building Data Center solutions, ranging from cabling to application tuning (switches, servers, networking, OS installs, performance tuning, etc.)
• Experience in scripting unattended installations of Windows operating systems and applications (as applicable)
• Experience in scripting languages Perl, Powershell, Java, SpringSource, and so on
• Good understanding of Server, Switching and Storage architectures and technologies
• Deep logical troubleshooting skills using research and experience to find a resolution or root cause
• Team player who is highly motivated and positive
• Experience presenting performance data in understandable forms (documentation, graphs, tables, charts)
