Project description

The goal of this PhD project is to study and analyze the impact of Software Defined Networking (SDN) – a new paradigm in integrated network control at all layers and all domain of a network.

SDN is a new way of providing a platform for integrated control of large scale networks in a more efficient way. While a number of benefits in terms of service provisioning, multi-tenant operation, standardized integration of new equipment etc. are well understood, a number of issues regarding support of heterogeneous networks and stronger integration of the physical layer still remain to be research.

The main topics the researcher will tackle within the project are:

•Handling of heterogeneous physical layer technologies

•Service- driven, policy-based control and management

•Network reliability and resiliency

•Implement of test and verification systems scenarios
