Mechanical Development Engineer – Barco Immersive eXperiences

The function

Barco is looking for a Mechanical Development Engineer for the Immersive Experiences Business unit based in Kortrijk.

From inspiring people at the Gent Light Festival, through bringing digital art to galleries and museums worldwide, to providing visuals at world’s leading concert stages, your work will make it happen. If you are driven by passion for technology and want to see your mechanical engineering expertise being used in our high-end products, then this open position is something for you!

You will be part of an international group of passionate developers based in Belgium and Norway.

Key responsibilities

This role will assist in the Mechanical design for Barco IX projectors and will work closely with other engineers from different discipline.

The end goal of the Barco mechanical design is to make sure a product fulfills the specification, while it can be produced reliably and perform consistently in specified operating conditions/environments.

In this role you will:

  • Create mechanical designs by using CAD software such as Creo.
  • Contribute in the mechanical design of new products and improvements to existing products.
  • You develop sheet-metal, molded (plastics, light alloy), milled turned, 3D printed, welded,… parts to create the optimal design.
  • Complete and release component designs and documentation, including 2D drawings.
  • Create engineering changes for design changes of new or existing products.
  • Build the engineering prototype projectors together with the rest of the team.
  • Analyse problems or deficiencies and develop solutions to resolve them.
  • Ensure that products meet compliance regulations.
  • Resolve issues and concerns with cross-functional teams including engineering, supply chain, production, and service.
  • You contribute to weekly project meetings.

Your profile 

  • You have a Master or Industrial Engineering degree in mechanics or electro-mechanics.
  • You have minimal 3 years of experience in developing and/or building mechanical systems.
  • You are familiar with common CAD systems. Knowledge of Creo and/or familiarty with Windchill is preferred.
  • You have relevant experience on the following processes:
    • Sheet metal
    • Plastic injection
    • Die casting
    • Machining
  • You are able to run simulations in Creo Simulate and analyze test data.
  • You have an interest in thermal engineering and/or mechanics of materials.
  • You have good oral and written communication skills in English and/or Dutch.

  • You are self-starting and being able to handle multiple projects.
  • You take initiative and are result-oriented.
  • You are analytic, critical and with an innovative attitude.
  • You are quality and cost conscious with the necessary eye for detail.
  • From time to time you are willing to travel to other Barco locations, suppliers or customers around the world.
