The University of Trieste is a lay, pluralistic, public sector institution of higher education that is independent of any ideological, religious, political or economic orientation, in compliance with the principles of the Constitution of the Italian Republic and the international commitments Italy has undertaken in the fields of scientific research and university education.

The main objectives of the University are scientific research and higher education, in order to promote the cultural, civil, social and economic development in the Italian Republic. The University acknowledges that teaching and research are inseparable and that both, where applicable, are inseparable from healthcare services.

University of Trieste (UniTS) is a medium-sized University with ca. 18.000 students, (out of which 1.286 are international students) and ca. 2144 students of specialization schools and PhD students.

UniTS, with its 10 departments, offers 77 bachelor’s degree, master’s degree courses and single-cycle master’s degree courses in different educational areas: Social Sciences and Humanities, Technology and Science and Life and Health. Some of these (Master and Doctorate) courses are in English.

UniTS has four campus in four different cities: Pordenone, Portogruaro, Gorizia and Trieste.

The University of Trieste has always positioned itself at the top levels of national and international rankings and intends to strengthen its role as a Research University of excellence, aiming to increase Doctoral Programs and scientific collaborations at national and international level, also through the recruitment of high-level researchers and scholars.

Among its strategic objectives, the University of Trieste aims to develop its international profile in the field of education and research.

The University of Trieste has over 140 international agreements all over the world (America, Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe) and it is part of Transform 4 Europe, a European alliance bringing together 10 Universities in 10 different countries.  

University of Trieste is born in 1924, so it is celebrating its Centenary in the academic year 2023-2024.

For this special anniversary UniTS has been organizing a challenging plan of activities, including new communication campaigns, a new logo, the re-editing of some art and historical books and a series of events designed to connect past and future and to bring the University closer to the city.
