What You’ll Do

In this role, you’ll lead a versatile team to ensure smooth daily operations with the highest standards of safety and quality. You’ll foster collaboration and drive operational goals in an environment focused on sustainable steel production.

Your knowledge of industry regulations, safety procedures, and ISO systems (9001/14001/45001 – considered a plus) makes you a confident and capable leader. You’ll ensure your team has the tools, knowledge, and support needed to succeed—while maintaining strict safety protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

You’ll also be responsible for accurate shift reporting on production, equipment performance, and any operational downtime. Another key aspect of the role is to promote continuous skills development, safety training, and strong operational routines.

You’ll work as part of our shift leader team. In this position, you’ll report to Dibya Sishya Behera and be part of our DRI function.

Your Responsibilities

Your main tasks include, but are not limited to, the following. As we’re a growing company with few silos between teams, you may also take on additional responsibilities as needed.

  • Use your expertise to optimize resource utilization and collaborate with the DR Plant Management team to ensure profitability, quality, and productivity. You’ll also support start-ups, shutdowns, and troubleshooting within the plant.
  • Lead, support, and coach a team that may include process operators, mechanics, electricians, as well as instrumentation and automation technicians. You’ll cultivate a positive, safe, and high-performing work environment.
  • Work closely with your shift team to plan and execute maintenance and equipment inspections.
  • Review, interpret, and stay up to date on piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), electrical schematics (MV/LV), manuals, and other documentation to ensure everything aligns with our operational and maintenance needs.

Qualifications

You believe real progress happens through collaboration, while always showing respect for others along the way. At Stegra, we value people who take initiative, build trust, and help create a workplace where everyone can perform at their best.

For this specific role, we’d like you to meet several of the following criteria:

  • Solid experience in a relevant field, preferably with substantial leadership experience—ideally as an Electrical, Instrumentation & Automation (I&A) Shift Manager.
  • Professional training or a degree in electrical power, instrumentation, electrical and electronics engineering, control systems, or a related area (required).
  • Hands-on experience applying fundamental mathematical concepts within electrical, instrumentation, and automation systems.
  • Willingness to work in shifts.

About Stegra

Stegra is on a mission to transform the global steel industry by producing green hydrogen, iron, and steel—with the goal of eliminating CO₂ emissions. Instead of coal, we use green hydrogen and fossil-free electricity, meaning our main emissions will be water and heat.

By 2030, our ambition is to produce 5 million tonnes of green steel annually in our fully integrated, digitized, and sustainable plant in Boden, Northern Sweden—currently under construction. But this is just the beginning. Our expertise in green hydrogen will also enable us to help decarbonize other industries, paving the way for a cleaner future.

Our Boden Site

Our Boden site is located just west of Boden City, in the heart of a growing green industrial hub in Northern Sweden. It’s where we’re building one of the world’s most modern and sustainable steel plants—designed with safety, efficiency, and people in mind.

With just a 10-minute commute from town, you’ll be close to both cutting-edge technology and the everyday conveniences of living near nature, schools, and a vibrant local community.
