Helse Fonna – Haugesund Hospital has a vacant permanent position for a senior physician in endocrinology. If no applicants are qualified or eligible to become specialists in endocrinology, the position may be filled by a senior physician in internal medicine.
Haugesund Hospital comprises departments of medicine (including paediatrics and neonatology), surgery (including obstetrics, gynaecology, and fertility services), psychiatry, and medical services (including emergency medicine, radiology, clinical chemistry, and pathology).
The Department of Medicine includes internal medicine with subspecialists in most fields, as well as neurology, oncology, geriatrics, rehabilitation, and a learning and mastery centre. The department is approved as a training site for internal medicine, nephrology, cardiology, respiratory medicine, gastroenterology, haematology, endocrinology, and geriatrics. Within internal medicine, there are currently 16 doctors in specialist training and 20 senior physician positions.
Endocrinology is organised within Medical Department B, together with infectious diseases. The inpatient unit has eight beds shared between endocrinology and infectious diseases. Endocrinologists participate in inpatient care together with internal medicine and infectious disease physicians. Most patients admitted to the unit have infectious diseases or general internal medicine conditions, while the number of inpatients with endocrinological conditions is smaller.
The main endocrinology activity takes place at the medical outpatient clinic, in close and effective collaboration with highly skilled diabetes nurses, corresponding to approximately three full-time positions. There is a high level of activity in the outpatient clinic, with a strong focus on competence in technical equipment and patient education. In addition to diabetes care, the outpatient clinic manages a wide range of endocrinological conditions. There is extensive collaboration with the Department of Gynaecology regarding diabetes in pregnancy, as well as regular multidisciplinary meetings with the university hospitals concerning pituitary and adrenal disorders.
