DTU Systems Biology at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a position as Professor in Bioinformatics.



DTU Systems Biology is a department with the overall mission of contributing to research, development and education within the scientific areas of Biotechnology, Microbiology, Bioinformatics and Systems Biology.



The professor will be attached to the section for Integrative Systems Biology, one of the five research sections with about 25 employees.



Responsibilities and tasks

The successful candidate will be expected to lead an innovative research group and develop new research directions in the department. The candidate will be expected to securing funding for their research from Danish, European or other international funding agencies.

•It is expected that this post will develop close collaborations with the existing research groups within the Center for Biological Sequence Analysis (CBS)

•Ability to collaborate with more experimental research groups within the Systems Biology department would also be desirable.

•Continuation of existing collaborations with bioinformatics centers at other universities or external research organizations

•Collaboration with other DTU departments, for example DTU-Compute



The successful candidate is expected to take a lead position in teaching at the bachelor-, master- and PhD levels.



Qualifications

The successful candidate is expected to be at the forefront of research within one or more of the following areas: Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or Integrative Systems Biology, as applied to the understanding of disease and human health. It is expected that the candidate will have extensive experience in research management, including handling management assignments in national or international projects, research programmes, and international conferences. In addition to research leadership, the candidate will have demonstrated experience in teaching and academic mentoring. Candidates with a clear record of international collaborations, ideally with leaders in their respective fields, will also be expected.



Assessment

In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to

•the ability to teach

•scientific production at international level, research potential and ability to lead and develop a research team

•the ability to promote and utilize research results

•experience with innovation activities

•an all-round experience basis, including international experience

•the ability to contribute to the development of the Department’s internal and external cooperation

•track record in attracting funding to the research area

•visions within the research area



For the specific position consideration will also be given to:

•The ability to develop analysis approaches and algorithms for genomics data and BigData problems relevant to biology, and in particular health and diseases

•International collaborations

•Activities in professional organizations, such as the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB)



Salary and appointment terms

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

DTU Systems Biology is a DTU department, which at the highest international level works with molecular and clinical aspects, inter alia, in industrial biotechnology and medical biology. The application-oriented perspective characterizes research as well as teaching at the department. The department has a close cooperation with several other DTU departments.
