Consultant position in Hematology

The Hematology unit at Helse Fonna, situated within the Department of Internal Medicine in Haugesund, Norway, provides specialized care for hematological disorders, servicing nearly 200,000 people in the region, including smaller hospitals in Stord and Odda. This comprehensive department also includes various other specialties such as cardiology and oncology. The hematology section itself features a clinic, an oncology department, and a dedicated inpatient ward.

Currently, the unit is expanding, with positions available for dedicated nursing staff, two consultant/senior doctors, two junior doctors/specialists, and 2-3 junior doctors in a rotational training program. A new position for a senior doctor in hematology is also open, with opportunities for combining research with clinical responsibilities. These openings highlight the department's commitment to growth and education in the field of hematology, as well as its extensive collaboration with major Norwegian university hospitals.

The candidates for theese positions must hold Norwegian authorization to practice medicine, along with a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) and be listed on the GMC’s specialist register in Norway or possess an equivalent qualification from another country. We are also considering candidates who are currently specialty trainees in hematology. Additionally, proficiency in both oral and written Norwegian is required, as well as competent ICT skills to fulfill the job requirements effectively.

We are looking for candidates who demonstrates a strong motivation and interest in the field of hematology, with a commitment to contributing positively to a professional and collegial environment. The ability to work in a targeted and structured manner is essential, alongside being flexible and hardworking. Moreover, possessing good communication skills is crucial for effective interaction with patients, their relatives, and colleagues, ensuring a cohesive and supportive work setting.

We offer an active and pleasant working environment, maintaining a high professional level and prioritizing the facilitation of research. Salaries are determined in accordance with applicable collective agreements.

We have 40 hours working week. Normal working days are from 08.00 a.m. until 16.00 p.m. Senior consultants are on call every 7th day/weekend. We have always a junior consultant on call.

Everybody in Norway has 5 weeks holiday per year, you will have in addition 2 weeks off and the Friday after a weekend-duty is a day-off.

Specialist have a sabbatical period with full salary in 4 months every 5th year.
The hospital can be helpful with housing, looking for job-possibilities for a partner and schools/kindergarden for children. We will organize Norwegian language courses.
