About the Job
As BackEnd Architect at MovieStarPlanet you will:
•Work closely with our Lead Programmer, CTO and DevOps team in maintaining a technical vision for our many backend systems
•Collaborate across teams in developing new solutions, while also assisting and mentoring junior developers and sparring with experienced seniors
•Work with high end big data Technology, such as AWS and NoSQL servers
Coordinate and collaborate accross teams
As BackEnd Architect you report to the Lead Programmer.
Together, you will help your peers master the Agile balance of iterative development while maintaining an overall technical vision and big picture.
You will use around half your time developing highly scalable web services for our social network.
Examples of backend feature areas could be our payment systems, a million user chat system, our external APIs for third party developers, a multi-billion image sharing system, and many other areas.
Our BackEnd developers work in 6 different cross-disciplinary teams. Your other main task will be to help them co-ordinate with each other across these teams.
You will spar and collaborate with our experienced seniors, assist and mentor the junior developers, while allowing for their independence and autonomy.
You will not be expected to know the details of every nook and crook of our systems, but to bring together the specialists you work with, utilizing the strengths of each to the fullest.
About You
•You hold a M.Sc. in Computer Science or similar degree within software development
•You have at least 8 years of development experience
•You have at least 3 years of experience designing, developing large scale Web applications on .Net and SQL Server platforms
•Thorough understanding of memory management and optimization techniques
•Experience in estimating network loads and strategies to improve reliability
•Strong BackEnd architecture and design skills and experience
•Experience collaborating in a SCRUM environment with minimal supervision
•Knowledge of SQL
•Experience with test-driven development
•Experience with automated build systems such as TeamCity, Ant, or equivalent
•Your English skills are excellent - verbally and in writing
The following would be a plus:
•Applied knowledge of Network monitoring tools
•Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
•Experience with Object Databases (NoSQL)
•Experience with Java Servers, such as SmartFox
You are highly self-motivated and an enthusiastic, both when it comes to solving complex problems, learning about new technology, building the best solution and communicating your ideas. At the same time, you really like working with other skilled developers, exchanging ideas with seniors and mentoring juniors, always respecting the viewpoint of others.
You can foresee and identify issues, both local and across platforms, and can collaborate in working out their solutions. You always strive for the best quality, and take personal pride in developing a stable server with zero tolerance for errors.
You have a knack for explaining complex concepts in a simple way and can communicate smoothly across departments. Agile is your absolute preferred way of life and you favor direct communication, over checkboxes. At the same time, you will never execute a tedious task twice if you can build a script to do it.
You have a strong sense of responsibility towards your team, and will always do your utmost to help a team mate dealing with a tricky problem.
