The Centre for Applied Software Engineering (CASE) is a brand new innovative startup based in Genoa (Italy). The company performs research and development activities in the software engineering area filling the gap between the academic research and the actual needs of the companies. In particular, CASE develops solutions to improve software products helping both developers and customers to identify and solve software quality problems.

The solutions under development are based on the most advanced research outcomes coming from the international software engineering community and from the internal research. For this reason, we are building our team only with highly motivated people that are interested in working in an international environment and always dealing with cutting-edge technologies.

What we are looking for

The CASE team is looking for a highly motivated software engineer interested in developing advanced applications (mainly web-based and mobile) with a strong software engineering background and willing to learn. The duties include:

- participation in the design and development of advanced, research-based products

- participation to internal, local, national, and international research projects in cooperation with other companies and universities

- availability to travel in Italy and abroad

- availability to disseminate research work in national and international events

Required skills

- Experience in the following programming languages: Java, C/C++, SQL

- Strong architectural and design skills

- Knowledge of agile methods (XP and SCRUM) and DevOps

- Knowledge of the Linux operating system and bash scripting

- Good math and logic skills

- Good communication skills in English and Italian

Nice to have skills

- Experience in the following web technologies: HTML5, CSS3, and Javascript

- Knowledge of iOS and Android

- Knowledge of Linux low-level programming

- Knowledge of PostgreSQL

- Knowledge of MySQL/MariaDB

- Knowledge of NoSQL databases

- Optimization (linear, non-linear, constrained, etc.)

- Testing (unit and integration)

- Other languages such as: Python, R, Go, Rust

Required education and experience

- BSc, MSc, or PhD in Computer Science or Computer Engineering (degrees in other disciplines such as Math or Physics can also be considered)

- No previous formal working experience is required to apply. Fresh graduates and students aiming at getting their degree this year are encouraged to apply.

- At least 2 years of documented experience in software development (e.g., contribution to open source projects, personal projects, professional projects, etc.)

- Willingness to learn new languages and technologies

Our main working language is English since we have an international team.
