We are seeking applicants for a 3-year Postdoc in 3D marine ecosystem modelling to join us at the Department of ECOSCIENCE working within developing new model approaches to assess the impact of offshore windfarms on hydrodynamics and environment, the potential for multi-use with low trophic aquaculture, and risk for spreading of none-indigenous species.
 

Expected start date and duration of employment
This is a 3–year position from 1 February 2024 or as soon as possible.
 

This is a fixed-term position to end on 31 January 2027.
 

Job description

  • You will be contributing to developing 3D ecosystem models of the North Sea and the Inner Danish waters.
  • You will be working primarily with implementing impacts of offshore windfarm effects on the marine ecosystems.
  • Investigate the potential for multi-use of offshore windfarms with low-trophic aquaculture
  • Assess the risk for spreading of non-indigenous species using wind farm monopiles as stepping-stones
  • You will be a part of the marine group that covers research and advisory tasks across the marine environment mainly related to Danish and Arctic waters  
  • These activities will be conducted in close collaboration with the model group and other colleagues at the institute as well as international partners
  • It is expected that you can collaborate broadly with stakeholders in the design of scenarios and for management purposes

 

 Who we are
The Department of Ecoscience is engaged in research programs and advisory work covering the major biological subdisciplines. We conduct world-class research in the areas of aquatic biology and ecology, Arctic environment and ecosystems, biodiversity, conservation biology and wildlife management. The Department currently employs approximately 275 academic and technical staff, as well as many PhD students.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Formalities and salary range
Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.

Applicants should hold a PhD in oceanography, marine ecology, environmental sciences, or similar. We expect that you have:
 

  • Expert knowledge on coupled 3D hydrodynamic-biogeochemical models
  • Expert knowledge of marine physical- and biogeochemical processes in coastal and/or open waters
  • Very good skills in scientific programming and analyzing tools (e.g., C++, Python, R, MatLab)
  • Publications in high-ranking journals
  • Good collaboration skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team within marine science
  • Very good knowledge of English (written and oral)
  • Good communication skills (scientific community, the public, stakeholders, and managers)
  • Experience in data analysis and statistical tools
  • Preferable experience with advisory work
