Do you want to be involved in the green energy transition? Do you wish to contribute to the development of E-mobility integration and are you looking for a career in R&D or academia? Then we have an opportunity!

We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled candidate to join us as PhD scholar.

We offer a multidisciplinary, international, and friendly atmosphere, encouraging creativity, diversity, empathy, and teamwork. You will have a great opportunity to build strong networks with internationally known researchers at DTU and other universities as well as industrial partners.

You will be affiliated with the Section on E-mobility and Prosumer Integration in the Division of Power and Energy Systems. Collaboration with neighboring sections working on distributed energy systems, hybrid power plants, smart grids, power system flexibility, and market design and operation, is encouraged.

The Section on E-mobility and Prosumer Integration undertakes internationally leading research and teaching in the field of EV technologies, charging infrastructure and flexibility, advanced power electronics, battery energy systems and hybrid AC-DC systems. The research in this section is multidisciplinary and is currently formed by 27 researchers from 15 different countries.

Responsibilities and qualifications
The PhD project is part of the European research project EV4EU: Electric Vehicles Management for carbon neutrality in Europe. https://ev4eu.eu/

The EV4EU project involves 16 partners from 4 countries and proposes bottom-up and user-centric Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) management strategies creating the conditions for the mass deployment of electric vehicles. The strategies will consider the impact on batteries, in user needs, on power systems, including energy markets integration, and on transformation. The proposed V2X management strategies will be tested in four demonstration sites, allowing an evaluation of the advanced control methodologies and tools, the definition of the appropriate implementation conditions, and a consolidation of the most promising solutions and corresponding business models.

This PhD project’s objective is to study and propose mechanisms that allow the efficient integration of V2G charging in the power system, both from a user and system operator perspectives. These mechanisms will be designed in a data-driven manner, allowing for AI-informed decision making that prioritizes user preferences and experience.

Your primary tasks will be:

  • Plan and manage your PhD project in collaboration with supervisors
  • Investigate user behaviour depending on variable charging prices
  • Assess the impact of user preferences EV charging and on the electrical grid
  • Design and validate new AI-informed charging concepts that facilitate the grid integration of renewable energy sources while prioritizing user experience

A detailed project plan will be developed with the supervisors within the first two months after enrolment.
