Head of Applications & Systems Development

We are looking a highly motivated technology leader to join us in the role of Head of Application & Systems Development. An ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of agile, software design and engineering best practices. You will lead the build-out of technology platforms and will deliver applications for KPMG firm and its clients. As a Head of Application & Systems Development, you will manage a team of +/- 40 people, Microsoft and Non-Microsoft technologies’.
You will also be responsible for supporting planned modernization initiative across KPMG Luxembourg Development teams, promote and drive process standardization.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
Leadership:
- Lead, develop and implement IT initiatives that enable to compete in a constantly changing and demanding marketplace;
- Improve continuously efficiency of Applications & Systems Development team;
- Translate the company vision into innovative applications and systems;
- Manage, motivate and develop all staff within the Apps & Systems Development team. Ensure the organizational structure is appropriate for supporting KPMG current and future business needs;
- Be an advocate of scalable and extensive, recoverable and manageable architecture;
- Partner with IT Security, IT Services and IT Operations;
- Enforce compliance and security within Apps & Systems Development team;
- Manage related budget;
- Recruit, mentor and develop the team.
Planning:
- Coordinate development to ensure key business strategies and processes are supported by systems and enable growth and flexibility;
- Develop plans and budgets in light of Application & Systems Development team work needs and approved projects.
Expertize:
- Expert level software development and programming experience across a wide range of technologies;
- Recent experience as a technology director and in a hands-on technical lead role;
- Coaching and mentoring skills to lead distributed development teams;
- Experience in architectural patterns, micro-services, data management, testing…;
- Cloud / AWS, machine learning algorithms and calculus engine experience all nice to have;
- Financial business domain experience (Bank, Insurance, and Investment funds).
Other responsibilities
- Ensure Application & Systems Development team is in line with agreed strategy and policies. Ensure that policies and strategy are in compliance with KMPG Global requirements, local regulations;
- Identify and provide KPIs and metrics for measurement of compliance within Information Technology;
- Participates in audits and address observations related to Application & Systems Development.
You have the following qualifications and skills:
- Master Degree or equivalent in Information Technology;
- At least 10 years’ experience in a similar position and environment;
- Proven track record of delivering scalable, global, efficient and reliable software services;
- Deep understanding of the service development, orchestration, release, source control and workflow management eco-systems;
- Deep understanding of operational bottlenecks; service monitoring eco-systems; service provisioning; recoverability and manageability challenges;
- Broad understanding of various cloud development technologies and trends; developer preferences and challenges;
- Finance, audit, tax and advisory business knowledge and understanding;
- Formal project management skills;
- Ability to inspire and build a culture of innovation;
- Experience working in an international and multicultural environment;
- Creativity, great interpersonal skills and high level of emotional intelligence;
- Fluent in English. French or German will be considered as an advantage.
