Design Manager in Product Technology department

Join an innovation area in the LEGO Group Based in Billund, Denmark, you will be part of our Platform, Concept and Design core team in the Product Technology department. In Product Technology we are responsible for innovation of the many technologies that have become an integral part of the play experience in LEGO Products. Within the Platform, Concept and Design Area we are responsible for the frontend development of technology components from the earliest ideas to design & functionality freeze. We focus on building an understanding of needs, trends and opportunities, insights, potential partners, and we use our knowledge of these areas to converge them into LEGO Experience and business context. Deliver strong design management As Design Manager, you will be our Lead on technology component design and accordingly be responsible for the creative leadership of designers in Product Technology. You will be collaborating closely with the Concept Manager on both concept and design development, and also work on product development with internal customers. Specifically, you drive the design phase up until design & functionality freeze and as such you support and ensure development of technology opportunities, particularly during the concept ideation phase. You will also be responsible for driving family design within the specific technology platforms. Overall, this gives you an exciting position that challenges your abilities to stay innovative when designing complex electro-mechanical components within the constraints of the LEGO Building system. At times, these challenges also include UI design. However, you always ensure that all activities are based on the LEGO and Product Technology values. The nature of the position will take you travelling 2-3 weeks a year. Solid product design background and a positive, collaborative mind-set You have a relevant Design education combined with several years' experience with integrated product design and product design management of similar electro-mechanical components. Preferably, you have experience from larger teams and a global company. Also, you need to take an interest in and have knowledge about toys and the toy industry as well as an understanding of new and emerging technologies. You speak and write English fluently. It is also important that you possess an independent, proactive and collaborative mind-set as well as the drive to create results. You are skilled at driving design processes in a field with many stakeholders to navigate between. Accordingly, you need to be curious, positive and open with the ability to understand the perspectives of marketing professionals, engineers, and other designers.
