Flanders, one of the 3 regions of Belgium, is an integral part of one of the most dynamic economic areas of Central Europe, and has experienced dynamic growth patterns since the end of 2013. It’s home to the beating technological heart of Europe, and a place where the inventions that will transform the future emerge on a daily basis.
Despite this, employers are facing shortages of qualified professionals insectors such as Engineering, ICT, Construction, Technology and Web Development.

Work in Flanders 2018 - Lisbon will take place both online - on the European Job Days platform - and onsite - in Lisbon, Ordem dos Engenheiros - Engineers’ Order Head Offices.
- On the 19th of June (Tuesday) from 10am to 6pm (Lisbon time), you will be able to:
- onsite: visit the exhibitors' stands, learn more about the companies and become acquainted with their offer;
- online: watch live presentations as well as chat with employers and EURES advisers.
- On the 20th of June (Wednesday) you will be able to take part in previously arranged on-the-spot (or online) recruitment interviews with employers.
This event is an opportunity for you to meet and make contact with Flemish employers, while gaining insight into living and working in Belgium in general and Flanders in particular. The event will give you all the support needed for your job search in Flanders, Belgium.
To take full advantage of the event please remember to:
- complete your profile and upload your latest CV;
- browse through the job offers and apply before the event for these fitting your profile - only by doing so will you have the chance to be invited for one or more interview;
- make first contact with Flemish employers in person at the event onsite and/or online.
Participation is free of charge, but a limited number of places are available and you have to register beforehand!

Getting ready for the event
- Register as a jobseeker (participation is free of charge, but previous registration is mandatory, since limited places are available)
- Study and analyse the available information on the participating companies, their main projects and recruitment needs
- Search for the jobs you are interested in and to those
Participating companies may invite you for one or more recruitment interviews on June 19th or 20th. If you are pre selected for interview, you will get a notification from the employer(s) concerned, outlining possible time slots for the interview. You should reply to this notification as soon as possible.

- It will also prove useful to monitor the workshops and company presentations listed on the June 19th Programme on a regular basis, as it’s possible they may be updated
- Get ready, select the companies you want to approach, collect information about them, identify the questions you want to place, anticipate possible questions by the employer
- You should also prepare by selecting the companies which interest you, carrying out research into them, preparing the questions you wish to ask and anticipating the questions they are likely to ask you

Participating onsite?
- Our advice is that you set the whole of June 19th aside in order to take advantage of the information and advice on offer
- Although the ideal approach is for you to apply for jobs before the day itself, you should always carry a few printed CVs in English - they may be useful when approaching the Exhibitors
- When approaching the company stands, it is vital that you create the best possible impression. This involves demonstrating a firm grasp of spoken English and a positive and assertive attitude. You should also be able to display proven knowledge of the companies in question and their current main projects. Attention to detail of this kind will make all the difference when it comes to creating the maximum positive impact
- Make sure you arrive on time for any pre-scheduled interview
Participating online?
- Minimum requirements:
- a PC / laptop, tablet or smartphone with access to the internet (stable wifi or cable connection) and speakers / headphones
- for online interviews: a webcam + headsets with microphone + (ideally) Skype setup
- Check the final version of the Programme the day before the event; watch the presentations which may be of interest to you and ask questions on the chat
- Make sure you connect on time for any pre-scheduled interview.

By plane
The nearest international airport is Lisbon (Portela) Airport.
From there, you can reach the Engineers’ Order by car / taxi / subway in 20-25 minutes.
If you choose the subway, take the red line up until “S. Sebastião” stop, then change to the blue line heading to “Sta. Apolónia” and leave in “Parque” stop.
By train and subway
If coming from out of Greater Lisbon by train, you could leave in 3 train stations, all of them with good connections to the Order by subway:
- Oriente (20 to 25 minutes): take the red lineup until “S. Sebastião” stop, then change to the blue line heading to “Sta. Apolónia” and leave in “Parque” stop;
- Santa Apolónia (10 to 15 minutes): take the blue line heading to “Amadora Este” and leave in “Parque” stop;
- Entrecampos 15 to 20 minutes): take the yellow line heading to “Rato” and leave in “Picoas” stop.

By bus
The Engineers’ Order is in a very central location in Lisbon, close to Marquês de Pombal, and many buses stop less than 5 minutes walking from the Venue: at least 702, 712, 727, 732, 744, 746 and 748.
If you come from Almada you can also take 753.

By taxi
From the Airport, it should take you around 15-20 minutes and 13-15 euros to get to the event venue.
From Santa Apolónia Train Station, around 15-20 minutes and 12-13 euros.
From Oriente Train Station, around 20 minutes and 15 euros.
