General information

Malta, officially the Republic of Malta, is an island nation consisting of the main island of Malta and the smaller islands of Gozo and Comino. The country covers an area of approximately 316 km²; by comparison, it is about twice the size of Washington, DC, and could fit into Luxembourg around eight times. Malta has a population of over half a million people.

Malta is an archipelago located in the central Mediterranean Sea, south of Sicily and north of the North African coast. The country is renowned for its rich history, shaped by successive civilisations including the Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs (Moors), the Knights of St John, the French, and the British.

Malta is home to numerous historic fortifications, medieval cities, and UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Megalithic Temples, among the oldest free-standing stone structures in the world, and the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum, a unique subterranean complex of chambers and burial spaces dating back to around 4000 BC.

Today, Malta combines this deep historical heritage with a modern European lifestyle, offering a vibrant cultural scene, a mild Mediterranean climate, and a strategic location at the crossroads of Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.

Where are the available workers?

Working in Malta

We are looking for workers to fill in vacancies in almost all sectors in Malta. All job applications must contain a curriculum vitae (CV) written in English and a covering letter, copies of certificates and references. Job applications should be typed.

The curriculum vitae is usually no longer than two pages. The standard European curriculum vitae format (Europass) is recommended. This can be downloaded from www.europass.cedefop.europa.eu.  Simplicity, conciseness and precision are recommended. The CV should include the following: personal details, education, language proficiency, computer skills, specific skills, professional experience, and information about hobbies and interests.

Application letters or emails are usually concise and should not exceed a few paragraphs. They are a vital tool for providing employers with information about career aspirations, educational background, professional experience, and availability. Applicants should clearly express their interest in the vacancy and use the covering letter to demonstrate why they are suitable for the position.

Some employers provide their own application forms for candidates to complete. While certain forms are standardised, others place greater emphasis on previous work experience and include more unstructured, open-ended questions.

After reviewing the CVs, employers may either shortlist candidates or invite applicants for an interview. In some cases, a medical examination may be required prior to employment. A medical certificate is then issued by a recognised medical professional, confirming whether the candidate meets the required standards and is fit to perform the specified job.
