Do you want to:

  • obtain research-based knowledge about entrepreneurial team formation in science-based start-ups (such as academic spinoffs)?
  • advise university technology transfer offices, incubators and other technology transfer intermediaries how to support scientist-entrepreneurs to build strong entrepreneurial teams?

Despite the importance of teams in science-based start-ups, there are several unanswered questions about the team formation process and the team configurations that may increase the start-ups’ success potential. To help answer these questions, DTU, The Technical University of Denmark, Centre for Technology Entrepreneurship invites applicants for a 3-year PhD position on “Entrepreneurial Team Formation in Science-based Start-ups”, ideally starting by February 1st, 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter in 2023.

Responsibilities and qualifications

We are looking for an ambitious candidate for a PhD project (3-year, full-time) to focus on the project topic. We expect that the candidate will learn to perform rigorous and relevant research using a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods and extend collaborations with key academic and industrial partners at both a national and international level. We also expect that the candidate will disseminate their research findings in academic and practice-oriented outlets.

Candidates should have a master's degree. Master’s degrees in a variety of disciplines will be considered. Candidates may apply prior to ob­tai­ning their master's degree, but cannot begin before having received it.

In addition, we seek a candidate with:

  • A longer-term interest in pursuing a research career.
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary and international environment.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English

The assessment of the applicants will be made by Argyro (Iro) Nikiforou, Assistant Professor and Jes Broeng, Professor, Director of the Centre for Technology Entrepreneurship at DTU.

Salary and appointment terms

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.
