Senior Development Chemist – Process Optimization Laboratory

Would you like to work at the absolute forefront of organic process chemistry in the pharmaceutical industry – if yes, please continue reading.

Are you a highly motivated and skilled organic chemist, who has a talent for finding and optimizing existing processes within the production of small molecule API’s - then we have the job for you at Lundbeck’s API production site at Sjællands Odde.

As a Senior Development Chemist in the Process Optimization Laboratory, you become part of the department, Chemical Production Development, which comprises 25 highly motivated colleagues. The department is responsible for synthetic work, development and implementation of processes, analytical method development, and support of the chemical production. Our department consists of two teams that works closely together on Production Development Projects, along with the other departments on the site.

You will have a leading role in the optimization of our existing processes and implementation of new projects or CMO (contract manufacturing organization) projects.

Your job

As a Senior Development Chemist in our laboratory your work will in general cover three areas. The first area is day-to-day ad hoc tasks and problem solving. This includes synthetic and analytical work in order to release API batches for further processing. The second area is finding and optimizing poor performing existing processes. You are expected to find and generate solutions for processes that could perform better and lacks production stability. Additionally, you will be responsible for preparing procedures and synthesize various reference standards for use in our drug dispensary and use-test raw materials from new suppliers. The third area is the implementation of new processes and CMO projects. Here you will take a major role in securing that our own and CMO projects are implemented in cooperation with our development team. The projects have tight deadlines, and it is a requirement that these are met while providing a focus on stability of the processes. Some minor work might also be expected focusing on flow chemistry, as this is an area of development in our production facility.

You will be working closely together with the other highly skilled colleagues in the laboratory, both chemists, engineers and laboratory technicians. But you will also have a lot of networking with other colleagues on the site and possible on our other API site in Italy.

The job requires that you can work well with various teams, with very different educational background, but simultaneously take ownership of the projects and makes sure that these gets implemented.

You efficiently document your work in status reports and development reports.

You will work independently on smaller projects and in project teams on larger projects.

Apart from the daily contact with colleagues in the department, you will also enjoy cross-organizational collaboration in a busy and productive environment, which requires strong professional and interpersonal skills.

The close link to the production processes provides a dynamic and changeable environment where every day is different and the ability to adjust is key.

For Lundbeck it is the employees and their knowledge, which is our most important asset. Lundbeck offers free and flexible working conditions and opportunities so that the individual can shape his/her own job role.
