Embedded Software Engineer

Tessares is a Belgian technology startup, spin off of UCL (Université catholique de Louvain), that is active in the research, development, go-to-market and deployment of software solutions that significantly improve the performance and the quality of Internet access by efficiently bonding hybrid access networks (e.g. DSL + LTE). Tessares solutions build upon a new Internet protocol standardized by the IETF: Multipath TCP (MPTCP).

What you'll do

As an embedded software engineer, you will contribute to our Multipath TCP agent software that runs in home gateways. You will write code that runs in gazillions of Internet access boxes. You will contribute to drastically improving the end user experience through efficient bonding of access technologies (combined DSL, 3G, LTE, etc.).

In that mission, Tessares will help you with the following assets :

• The team: As part of the embedded development team, you will participate in a continuous feedback loop (e.g. through peer reviewing).
• The experience: You will work in close interaction with major contributors to the Multipath TCP protocol and implementation.
• The boxes: Have you ever dreamed that you had full access to your home gateway, with possibility to recompile its kernel or augment its features ? At Tessares, we get the real boxes, open them and turn them into real racing cars !
• Yourself: As a recent start-up, we will be eager to receive input from you and strive to reach ever more ambitious objectives. Together.

Useful knowledge you have

We all need to be fluent in English, both written and spoken. For embedded software development, we currently use the C programming language and closely interact with the Linux kernel. For this reason it will be great if you have kernel programming experience, or have no fear to dive into the kernel and hunt bugs. Moreover, as we modify the networking function of the gateway, it would be good that you master TCP/IP protocols. You will also interact with other engineers from gateway and chipset vendors in order to integrate our solution into their boxes.
