Early Stage Researcher (ESR) position for CT-based quality optimization of Selective Laser Sintering
Early Stage Researcher (ESR) position for CT-based quality optimization of Selective Laser Sintering
Description: You will focus on the use of CT to improve Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes. Your main focus will be on Selective Laser Sintering, which is the most important AM production process employed by Materialise. You will develop a quality control loop that uses the results of CT measurements (including detection porosity and defects in the material structure and dimensional accuracy) in order to improve the AM process. This comprises: 1) optimizing CT settings for different geometries and materials; 2) link process data (measured with real-time monitoring system in the AM machine) with CT data in order to validate the monitoring system and to focus subsequent CT measurements only on problem areas indicated by the measurement system; and 3) link the measured dimensions with the design in an automatic way. You will benefit from a secondment to KUL where he will be embedded into both the additive manufacturing and the dimensional metrology research groups, where you can apply for an industry-based PhD in Engineering Technology.
Secondments: During this project, you will do a secondment (of a few months) to KU Leuven
Duration: 36 months (enrolment in a PhD program at KU Leuven)
Envisaged job starting date: between November, 1st 2013 and March, 31st 2014
