Aquaculture company needs to recruit a Cultivation R&D Manager
Oceano Fresco is a Portuguese company in the field of bivalve aquaculture, whose innovative strategy implies an integrated approach to cultivation and production, "from hatchery to the consumer", sustained by a strong focus on Research & Development (R&D) in the areas of cultivation, biotechnology and digital.
Oceano Fresco is currently building a biomarine center in Nazaré, which will house a bivalve hatchery- the most modern in the world - as well as laboratories and offices. In addition, the company has an off-shore concession of 103 hectares in front of Lagos / Alvor, where a nursery will be installed in 2020. These two facilities will allow the company to cover the entire production cycle, with the clam seed grown in the hatchery that will then be taken to the nursery in the Algarve where it will be grown until commercial size. This integrated approach is one of the decisive factors that differentiate Oceano Fresco from its international competition.

Main tasks / responsibilities:
- Execution of the bivalve breeding program and developing R&D activities to optimize hatchery cultivation process from the broodstock conditioning and spawning to larval and seed culture, including optimization of the phytoplankton culture.
- Nursery optimization and grow-out culture, he will keep in contact with farmers and other external entities, and he will perform an ongoing research on the cultivation state of the art.
Required profile:
- Master’s degree, ideally a PhD, in the area of Marine Biology, Biology or related fields
- Minimum 2 years of research experience in this area,
- Essential to have verifiable knowledge about the cultivation of bivalves in the hatchery (preferably industrially)
- Interested in trying new methods and approaches
- High level of English (Portuguese is desirable but not mandatory),
- Communication and research skills
- Able to perform structured and quality reports
- Good computer skills from a user's perspective
- Driving licence
- Availability to work by shifts and on weekends
