Who are we?
INEGI – Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering
is a Research and Technology Organisation (RTO), founded in 1986, focused on 
research and technology-based innovation activities, technology transfer, 
consulting and technological services, oriented to the development of industry and 
economy in general. It’s a non-profit, private and recognised as a public utility 
entity.
Over its more than 35 years of activity, the Institute has developed and consolidated 
its position as a technological partner for industry, particularly in the main sectors 
with which it collaborates: industry, capital goods, automobile and transport, 
aeronautics, space and defense, sea economy, infrastructure, health and sport, and 
renewable energies.
The Institute is located in Porto, where it has an infrastructure with 9,267 m2, 
including engineering areas, experimental factories, and laboratories capable of 
supporting the entire chain of innovation and development, from idea to solution. It 
has more than 100 associates and more than 1000 customers and partners.
INEGI also coordinates LAETA - Associated Laboratory for Energy, Transport and 
Aerospace, one of the 26 Associated Laboratories of FCT – Portuguese Foundation 
for Science and Technology. In this context, INEGI dedicates efforts to scientific 
research in the areas of materials and manufacturing processes, structures and 
mechanical systems; energy, environment and sustainability, intelligent control 
systems, and biomechanics.
Aiming to actively participate in defining the future, INEGI also plays an important 
role in defining and implementing public policies and participates in expert panels, 
collaboration networks, sectorial clusters and advisory commissions, at a national 
and European level
